Well, the trials is over, but we atleast had GREAT benifits from the trial, A NewsServer, plenty of free gigs bandwidth, ect!
Now just think, if WA managed to give out this big ammount of bandwidth absolutely FREE for us, even that its just a trial account, then when they start reselling it, they can arguably sell for the lowest price(s) on the market.
Lets move back to about 8 months ago, when the cheapest bandwidth on the market was +- R70 a gig. Now, about 2 months ago (Beginning October), WebAfrica sent out 10Gb accounts to about 8000 users. Now if we would buy 8000, 10gb accounts at R70 (for arguments sake) a gig, it would cost in Total R5600000. Thats R700 a user. Then they gave another 1gb free for every trial user, thats another R560000. Then a while after that, that, they were generous enough to give is all a small 500mb extra bandwidth on all accounts. Lets say half a GB costs R35, then it would be R280000 they spend on us for bandwidth. And just about a week ago, they gave everyone another 1gb bandwidth, to spend during the last week while the trial lasts, which is another R560000.
Now do the math, in TOTAL spend R7000000 (Seven Million Rand)on the international bandwidth trial.
This may not be very accurate, since it's not what Resellers pay for bandwidth, before reselling them, but I used the figures that a regular person would pay using the Regular shaped prepaid accounts from WebAfrica, which currently run through SAIX. Just my view, is that Webafrica didn't spend half that much, since they use their own network. And they defenately wouldn't spend that much on just testing a network.
My Views:
With all these new ISP's, with their New uncapped packages like Gigichilly, and Afrihost with their R29 Per gig ect, ect, competition with ISP's just started the battle.
My outlook say WebAfrica may come up with the cheapest bandwidth account that this country have ever seen, withing the next 6 months.
(PS: dont flame me if you THINK i'm not making sense or have a a little bit of the math wrong)
