Webafrica lacking with new products

I see the other guys like sainet,Axxess, openweb
have been coming up with new products but WA is still behind.

I asked them in 2008 when is 3G/iBurst going to be introduced....still waiting
for that to happen

BTW# I am a reseller and have to stick with WA because of the DSL reseller
options but honestly if I could move I would because my clients are
shouting for more products.

Webafrica is still in the process of introducing new products and their is a lot of exciting new products coming out over the next couple of months, WA does not introduce new products unless all the kinks have been ironed out first.

With regard to 3G we are still introducing it, it has been slow and we do apologise for the inconvenience. We have been experiencing problems with the provider we were going to use and have decided to go else where.

Further to what Tyron mentioned - a lot of the innovation at WA has been happening internally. What I mean by this is our focus has been on gearing and ensuring seamless growth without sacrificing service quality in the process. Aspects such as proper controls, strong governance, good policies and procedures - this stuff is less exciting but still very necessary stuff.

We are well aware of the fact that our "external innovation" has been limited over the past 12 months, but don't worry we'll have some exciting stuff later this year - we've got quite a few idea's cooking already :)

I might be missing something, but unless WebAfrica is planning on rolling out their own 3g network, why would anyone want to buy a 3g package from you when you are inevitably going to be reselling it from MTN or Vodacom, in which case why not just buy it directly from the provider?

ISP's can still create innovative packages with the purchased bundles; eg: a adsl account + 3g failover or an integrated adsl and 3g package which eats at the same cap, but you can use either to connect, etc.

They could also package the bundles differently by selling x amount of b/w from a pool, and any excess capacity left in the pool by month end could be resold or used to subsidize 'prepaid' rollover to the following month.

though seriously is there still a market for Webafrica to do this?, i mean they can't just go luanch a product and only few or 1 to 2 take it up. in the end and definitly nowadays what sells in great demand is much more viable than some perk like semi unshaped, right ?

Yes agree WA are extremely lacking with new products. I've been with WA for couple of years now...nothing new..About 8 months ago there was talk about semi shaped..WA advised that they "testing" package...well I guess they still testing... decided to give FNBconnect a try...wow.... unshaped at great price and GREAT service. Sorry WA but it looks like you've lost a valuded customer.
 
I have been a staunch supporter of WA over the years. This is evident in many of my postings on WA related threads. However I have to unfortunately say that I no longer purchase from WA. This is not due to a lack of service excellence but rather a lack of products. I feel it only fair that WA gets to hear why they have lost my +-R500 a month.

Should WA come to the party in the future I would definitely consider them again.

While "top secret" does induce some creative thoughts, Jonathans statement back in Feb is certainly not without merit. We have indeed been working on something very exciting over the past 9 months - an announcement going out to all WA customers sometime in the next few weeks will outline all the details therein :)
 
On the point why we decided not to offer IS Semi Shaped:
1. Our focus has been fully applied on bigger and better things for our customers (see previous posts).

2. True broadband innovation in SA is going to stem from product simplification - not more confusing obfuscated product types that will soon be obsolete and irrelevant. The future of broadband offerings are those that are affordable, generous with bandwidth and un-inhibited - forget shaped/unshaped and imagine a single product that works great with everything - Smart made simple :)

All you have to do is view international trends to see re-enforcement of this model.
 
Rupert. What I think WA is failing to see is that we need something now, not in the future. The word 'future' smacks of 'imminent' and we all know what that means in SA BB terms.

Your product offerings are really behind atm but if WA is content to loose customers now with the aim of blowing them away with a superdooper deal later.....then I wish you luck.

For now I am a FNB connect and Axess 626 customer.
 
Sadly I left WA a while back for products offered by axxess that better suite my needs. At first it was for a 10Gb Semi Shaped account which was outstanding and this month I switched that to a 384k Uncapped Express+(4mb in the evenings) for R999 which I believe you ask R1299 for(correct me if I'm wrong please).

I have to say I really miss WA customer service, I still believe it to be the best. I recently had a small thing that needed t be corrected and where WA would handle this within 2-3 hours Axxess took 4 days. :(

Come on WA! I want to come back to you lot!
 
I would love to have some thing for us local gamers. I play dota and other local games but it chews up my cap at about 20mb a hour to host a game for 10 people. I was wondering if we could get a shaped 512 acc that is uncapped for gaming and unshaped but with slower web browsing with a cap for other downloads for about R200-300?

Might work, but potential for abuse is too much. All I need to do now is to tunnel my sharing via gaming ports. Uncapped sharing (downloads) FTW. :cool:

Good to hear. :) I've been with WA for years but I've also opened an account with Axxess since they undercut WA with prepaid prices quite comfortably. They're innovative with new products and always churn out something new with reasonable frequency.

Of course, South Africans are paying excessively for bandwidth in general so quite frankly, any drop in price is enough reason for anyone to jump to another ISP without much hesitation.

A good day will be when WA reduce their SAIX prepaid prices. Some analysts believe that the arrival of the Seacom cable will not necessarily translate into immediate savings for the end consumer. Any comments on that? Because I'm assuming that after Seacom is up and running, that all price structures will be drastically revised by all ISP's anyway...?

All the isp needs to do is only alow the game servers in, they wont get abused because you won't be the one shaped incoming data will be but the ones from gaming servers for fps. Dota you become your own host but it is simple, they check if the data being sent is for the game it self. You can spoof data but the can see it.
 
left WA because of their unshaped pricing. Axxess with 6-2-6 and their pricing hit the sweet-spot. don't think I will go back unless there is a compelling (cost) reason. WA's internal controls & governance has not given me any savings.
