I just cancelled fibre with Webafrica to move to Cool ideas, and they charged me a R2280 installation fee 'clawback'.

I know it's my own fault for not reading the fine print, but this seems exorbitant, considering it was 'free'.

Anyone who's considering signing up, just keep this in mind as well as their stupid cancellation policies of full calendar month's notices.

Kicking myself now that I have to pay this when I could have avoided it.

Actually it's probable worth my while to phone and uncancel for a year if I can. Even paying the extra to Webafrica for a year will be cheaper than this costs!

Keep the line with Webafrica and just get data from Cool Ideas until your year is up. That's what I am doing.

That would bring my price up to r800 a month! Doesn't seem worth it.

Ok I reversed the cancellation. Will have to stick out the year. :(

All fibre companies have the installation fee they either charge it upfront or they say its free if you stay for 12/18/24 months. Months can vary per supplier.

It is not unreasobable.
They have invested money in good faith(paid supplier for installation) that you would stay with them for at least a year. You are now going back on the agreement so they are asking for a return of their investment.

Do you have a genuine problem with the WebAfrica internet or are you just going to Cool Ideas with the other sheep?

Webafrica has been fine. I was going to go with CoolIdeas because it's now cheaper than Webafrica, but I'm going to stick with Webafrica to avoid the installation cost.
