My ISP is Webafrica (I have their fibre service) but my email account is with Telkomsa.net. I have been using their outgoing mail server smtp.wa.co.za port 25 without any problems for a few years. From around 5 Feb 2024 I have not been able to send any emails . I get an error message: Server error: '550 relay not permitted'. A number of interactions with the Webafrica Whatsapp helpdesk has yielded no solutions, they tell me to go sort it out with Telkom .......... I can't see that Telkom is the problem as I get my incoming emails on my Telkomsa.net account without any problems. I just cannot send any emails, no matter what email address I am sending to. Can anyone advise me how to resolve this.

Webafrica should have a mail relay you can use?

I have had the exact same problem since the beginning of February and no one seems to be able to help me fix this! I can receive my emails (through Telkom) but cannot send any messages from my Telkom email addresses. After hours with Webafrica they said I need to tell Telkom to point my outgoing SMTP to be able to send through Webafrica. So after all this time calls logged, emails to their hostmaster, Facebook etc Telkom tells me they're still busy investigating!!!! Did you ever come right? If so please can you tell me what SMTP info you're using or if Telkom or Webafrica were be able to fix it if it is fixed?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your SMTP issue.

Can I ask that you check the port used, it should be 587 instead of port 25. If you change to 587 and it still does not work, please DM me so I can get your details and have a tech reach out to you.

Thanks,
Mark

Also have the problem with smtp.wa.co.za port 578

relayhost = [smtp.wa.co.za]:587

Aug 1 13:37:00 srv02 postfix/pickup[3477400]: EA8D4601625: uid=0 from=<root@xxx02>
Aug 1 13:37:00 srv02 postfix/cleanup[3477407]: EA8D4601625: message-id=<[email protected]>
Aug 1 13:37:00 srv02 postfix/qmgr[3477401]: EA8D4601625: from=<christoffv@somedomain>, size=364, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Aug 1 13:37:00 srv02 postfix/local[3477409]: EA8D4601625: to=<christoffv@somedomain>, relay=local, delay=0.05, delays=0.03/0.02/0/0, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (delivered to mailbox)
Aug 1 13:37:00 srv02 postfix/qmgr[3477401]: EA8D4601625: removed

The mail is delivered to smtp.wa.co.za, but it is not delivered to the To: email account.

Wish I can get more logs, but the support at Web africa, well, no comments

to prevent spam, don't most ISPs block outbound SMTP? other than their own relays.
