Ive been looking at various ISP options for a while now and I think am close to picking up an account with webafrica. I have a few questions though for anyone that has a webafrica account at the moment. Im looking at getting the standard 2mb uncapped account.

1) how does this account perform during the day? Im going to be working from home and will need to be able to get reasonable performance out of the connection.
2) what sort of international (to Europe) latency is typical with webafrica? Most ISPs appear to be around the 204-214ms mark.

any thoughts?
 
My account has been fine during the day but our exchange is congested so late afternoon everything slows down.

i'm not sure about the latency but the HUGE advantage with WA is that they don't make you sign a contract.

Almost none of the ISP's make you sign a contract.
Anyway, to answer the OP: I've had a few friends move away from WA since December because the service deteriorated to hell.
 
I feel the service is fine... If you follow the rules.

Download your big files between 12-6 AM and your star rating should sit on 5. Full speed during the day.

Hi Markd,

Great news that you are thinking of taking an account with us. If you looking to work from home I would rather recommend a Business account or a capped accounts as a Home Uncapped account will work fine for normal protocols such as browsing, voip, ect. as long as you are on a 5-4 stars but not for any downloading during business hours as it is shaped. If you on the lower star ratings you will experience a slower connection during the day but after 5pm it will return to normal.

Latency will depend where you are situated but it will be around 180+ms to Europe.

I want to try Web Africa, but the trial account is for capped services, and everyone knows capped is often better quality that the uncapped counterpart. Is there a trial (even for a few days, maybe pay a small fee first?) so I can test the uncapped of Web Africa?

We unfortunately do not have a Uncapped trial accounts at present so the only way to test is with the current trial.

What's the difference between your capped and uncapped? Same as all the other ISP's? unshaped for capped but shaped for uncapped? Or is both unshaped but the uncapped one has that star rating thingy that slows down your line?
 
Thinking of cancelling my WA account.
Can't get hold of support.
No one answers the phone and no response on live chat.

Looks like mistake to move to WA.

The business uncapped performs the same as the home capped.

I'd also recommend the business rather.

As someone else said, keep your downloads to between 00:00 and 06:00 and your speeds will be great.

Ping to europe for me is 186ms.
