Can anyone please explain how exactly the rolling window system works on WebAfrica? I'm on a 1mbps uncapped package so my 7 day usage is limited to 14GB.

Lets say I've gone over 14GB within the first few days of starting my service and I'm being throttled. When will this usage be reset to 0GB? I'm already on my 9th day but it still says I've reached my limit.

Or does it sum the last 7 days usage no matter what day it is? So if I don't use any data my usage will go down day by day depending on the usage for the last 7 days from that specific day. For example:

Answer: So if I don't use any data my usage will go down day by day depending on the usage for the last 7 days from that specific day

Think of it, looking back 7 days from now to see how much you used, if its over 14gb, you throttled. If its less, it goes away until you at a point in time, where the past 7 days you used over 14gb.

it's as simple as moving away to any other ISP that does not make use of this utterly stupid system AND you will get REAL uncapped

WA's package - IMHO - is really more a semi uncapped account.

At what costs?

MWeb 1 meg uncapped is R 199 - no worries with usage etc. I DL whenever I want, and most of the time get full speed. Sometimes during office hours things have slowed down a bit for an hour or two. What I like is I do not have to manage my DL's or wait for DL+ windows. I just use the system and enjoyed an uncapped account - in the current broadband climate, I feel I am getting value for money with MWeb

What I don't understand is how WA can call this uncapped? I don't mind the throttling, but they threaten you with cancellation of your account if you go over a set limit. There is basically no difference between a capped account and an uncapped one, it's only how the caps are managed.

So that means I can only use 2GB max each day?!

The way the rolling windows work on our Uncapped product is as follows:

Start of Uncapped service:

Day 1 = 6gb
Day 2 = 1gb
Day 3 = 1gb
Day 4 = 2gb
Day 5 = 1gb
Day 6 = 2gb
Day 7 = 1gb

Total: 14gb

After the first 7 days we calculate your usage for the last 7 days. Meaning that your next 7 days will be calculated from Day 2 to Day 8 and the next will be from Day 3 to Day 9, if this makes sense. So if we use above example, since you downloaded 8gb from Day 2 to Day 7 you will be can to download roughly 6gb to play with for Day 2 to Day 8. Bearing in mind if you do use that 6gb on Day 8 you will only have 1gb for period Day 3 to Day 9 since your total usage for period Day 2 to Day 8 was 13gb.

You can also look at our KB article for more information on the service: http://kb.webafrica.co.za/article/AA-00833/33/Internet-Connectivity/ADSL/Home-Uncapped-QA.html.

Thanks, I understand. I know about DL+ hours, was talking about normal usage counting towards the rolling window.

Move to another ISP.

You might pay more, but then you don't have to worry if you have a big download in one day that will mess you up for 7 days afterwards.

WOW! Is Web Africa still insulting customers with Rolling Windows? Thought they'd get with the program by now. I am surprised they still have a lot of clients.
