Thought I'd ignore this problem, and just 'make do', as I've spent the last 2 - 3 months moving away from Telkom & using pre-paid via other ISPs.

Currently have Gmail forwarding e-mails to a WA address which (eventually) make their way to Outlook Express. In testing WA's Smartermail service, it used to take about 2 minutes for a mail to get from Outlook (using WA address) to Gmail a/c, then a further 2 minutes for mail to be fwd'd back to Outlook.

Now it seems the process takes at least 10 minutes each way :

Send mail from Outlook - Gmail (address I can monitor) = 10mins.
From Gmail a/c - (fwd'd back to Outlook Exp.) = 10mins.

20mins. , compared to Telkom which used to take a few seconds for the same thing - 5 - 10 seconds at the most - even using MTN to do the same thing takes marginally longer than Telkom used to take, but I find MTN slows down periodically & tends to 'hang' in Outlook during the day (more recently), when clicking on Send/Receive, so it's not as reliable as either WA or Telkom, though WA is consistently slow, and seems to be getting worse.

I'm almost sure it has something to do with the (still ?) dreaded SEACOM, as I was informed by someone in the industry a few weeks ago, that WA's Mail Servers are hosted overseas as it's apparently much cheaper to do so instead of having them here in SA...don't know if that's true, but presume that if they are, that's the reason for the delays, which have been getting worse.

I'm obviously aware that if someone sends you a mail, as you aren't expecting it, it won't make a difference if it arrives 5 seconds or 1/2 hour later, but the increased delays makes me wonder if all mails are getting through (i.e if the system's working optimally).

I don't expect many of you use mail in this way, but thought I'd bring it to the attn. of the forum & WA who monitor it & can perhaps respond ?

WA hosts in both the US and SA, thus it would definitely help to mention the domain or which servers ect. your domain is hosted on.

Hi BayCityRoller

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Mail should not be taking 10 minutes to get to your inbox, with that said, we will have to investigate thoroughly to see why it is taking that long.

Please PM me your client code and contact details, I will have a support agent investigate and contact you once everything has been resolved.

They are probably grey listing gmail addresses.

Thanks for the advice, but have just sent a PM with my details so WA should be able to determine everything they need to from them.

Just to say thanks to Treslan from WA for the constant feedback on this issue - their customer support is excellent especially seeing as this is really a side-issue for WA (email forwarding from Gmail) & I'm certainly not a big client/customer of theirs.

In my experience Gmail <-> ZA ISP is always slow. I've had emails sent from my Gmail to an Mweb addr take 8 hours. Other times it takes <1 mins.

Both the SMTP & POP addresses point to ZA addresses as far as I can tell.

I'm sure it can lead to confusion - those discrepancies. However, one +ve thing I'll say about Telkom is that whenever I tested the service, and it was often at the time I was changing over to new ISPs, mails always took a few seconds to go from & get back to Outlook.

Hi BayCityRoller

Thank you for your kind words.

With such feedback, it motivates the staff to continue to provide a high level of support to our customers.

I will pass this on to Treslan's manager so that he is aware of the feedback provided.
