Anyone actually read their T&C?

"Examples of unacceptable content or links: "Pirated software", "Hackers programs or archives", "Warez Sites", "Irc Bots", "Mp3" etc."

Umm, do they realise that not all mp3's are pirated copies of copyright music? I know what they're trying to say, but that's shoddy writing for a legal contract.

Oh crap I have never read it. Not that this applies to me, but is porn on the list of no-no's :D

@Cathryn

This seems like your second thread about WA.

All crappy.

Go with them or leave them but please stop wingeing about petty rubbish.

WA are of the best available.

It's called CYOA but thanks for sharing.

With the abysmal service over the last couple of days that really depresses me if that is the case.

Yes, it's my second thread. So what? Are we now limited to one thread per subject per day? It might be petty to you - in which case, stop reading the forum.

Agree with bwana about CYOA.

Nothing wrong with Cathryn post here. Info is good, you are supposed to read the fine print and if someones like her does it for you(because you did not) and highlights some issue then we should all be grateful and not flame her.

lol this is funny, i never take time to read T&C

dont fight make love :D

Our T&C/AUP are somewhat outdated and could definitely do with some refining, no arguments there. I'll have a read through it tomorrow, chat with the other directors and see where we can improve. Thx for the feedback Cathryn.

Isn't it in regards to websites hosted on WA servers in any case? i.e you're not allowed to have a site with WA on which you keep pirated software or links to pirated software? Also, if you have been having crappy internet lately, is it WA's fault or Telkom? It just seems that there are a few people on these forums going out of their way to give WA a bad name.

Hi All

Yes this is correct. The T&C applies to HOSTED content. In other words you can't host a warez server on our servers. What you download or browse or share on your ADSL line is your own business.

From the first line of the AUP. "By using our web hosting services, you agree to comply with our policies. " Emphasis on web hosting.

We actually a pretty liberal bunch. The only reason we have that clause regarding the hosting is to protect the other customers. Hacking, warez sites are often the causes of extensive server resources and complaints which tie up support. Anyone is welcome to host those sites with companies that specialise in a "anything goes" hosting environment.

Hope that clears it up! :)

Yup.. shame on the original poster ;-)

I work with Ogg Vorbis and MP3's files that aren't even music (conference/meeting/speech audio) - I nearly broke the WA T&C this week while doing legit work for a client.

Ye, i can never reach there live assistance. :( I never have tried to wait more than 40 minutes though.

No. I have no problem with banning illegal content. My point is that not all MP3s are illegal! Hosting, non-hosting, whatever.

Mp3's are examples of illegal content just as much as pain pills are examples of addictive substances.

Just as much as I can use pain pills responsibly, I can also use the Mp3 format responsibly. In context, I would therefore not complain about the WA statement myself as it makes perfect sense.

Maybe you should get another ISP if these little things bug you so much :p
