What would you guys have done?? 1) join at 384Kbps @ R269/month, or
2) Webafrica Uncapped 512kbps @ R630-00/month??
Also, what have you guys heard about their service and speed??
tia

WA are Uunet resellers - there a few threads about this currently here and here .

Personally I would wait until the UUNET bandwidth upgrade is implemented. I'm experiencing latency in excess of 3000ms (3 seconds) a.t.m., while I'm flying on Telkom unshaped.

Have experienced great customer service from WA though, so I hope it all comes good in the end. Right now I wouldn't recommend it. IMHO tho ;) .

384k @ R269? where or how did u get this figure?

512k @ R630 ex vat remember that (this rhymes)

That cost is just insane, lets be honest here - totally insane.

This whole "uncapped" crock is really starting to bug me now as it's not a step forward, but a step back.

In essense, the only thing that can be happening with an uncapped option is a far higher contention ratio. Considering there are only two companies that resellers can buy bandwidth from at the moment, your actually buying into a service that will degrade with the more people that access it.

yes and no one tells u what the total bandwidth is...

Why cant anyone tell you, "total available bandwidth on network 10mbit" or whatever.

lol noone, where the hell do u come into this picture :P

UUNET is upgrading and implementing more bandwith nearly every day.

At the moment I am quite happy with the speed.

UUNET Cape Town has a 5Mbit pipe for all DSL accounts.

Silversurfer are you serious? You are happy with the performance?

All I hear all over is how bad the latency is with uunet and even the speed isnt that fantastic.

Yup... i used a test account for a week last month, and been signed up this month... all good so far. I dont play online games atm, so ping/latency is not an issue for me. So its all just bout international bandwidth for me... which has been good. Obviously... local is always gonna be better... but... like i said... its 'good''enuff for me to be happy.
