So after many years I decided it was time to give up with the flaky 3G internet connection and try ADSL. I ordered and got a telkom line installed with ADSL enabled. I then saw web africas new (at the time) capped deals and signed up with them. The don't seem to be able to do pro-rata so I selected start of March as when my new package would take affect. I also requested transfer of my line, which seems to be taking forever - possibly longer than the telkom install which is less than impressive. Would Afrihost be quicker? I now have some paid for data which I can't use yet but I'm wondering if I should just switch to Afrihost if it means I can get up and running sooner? Any thoughts, advice?

Thanks.

Yup, avoid WebAfrica like the plague. Trust me on this.

nothing wrong with WebAfrica... years of happy service from them.

Don't go anywhere near Afrihost. Disastrous billing problems - they seem to use a random number generator to count bandwidth - and support so bad that the CEO recently had to issue a public apology.

I know personal anecdotes don't make good arguments but when we decided to switch our TK line over to AH, they told us it might take some days to take effect ... and a couple hours later the transition was done. This might not be the general experience but for wifey and me it turned out great.

Never had any billing probs neither. And their Clientzone is the best in the business.

Webafrica are useless, I choose AH and their DIY clientzone.

Another happy AH member. And they just gave me a 100% increase on my bandwidth :)

lol, yeah some rather differing points of view here. It does sound like luck of the draw.

Well I got lightning struck and don't have a modem at the moment anyway so I'll wait a little more but I haven't been impressed with webafrica so far.

Moral of the story, try them out yourself as everybody is different.

I've used them both, I like that I can do anything I want on AH clientzone, including moving lines, and don't EVER have to speak to a human who can makes mistakes. I also use a credit card and never had billing issues.

Webafrica are much better (bandwidth wise) since the IS move but I won't support them just because they have a 30 day cancellation policy, AH don't.

Purchase a product from Afrihost for this month and then cancel before the 25th to allow the account to cancel the end of March and then use your Web Africa account when it activates.

An ADSL account from any service provider will work, it doesn't matter who has your line.

I have my line with Web Africa, had no complaints about their service. They have always been great. I start my capped product with them from next month. Just 2 days ago I had an issue with my line, opened a support ticket on the Client Zone at 9pm and within half an hour I had a reply saying it was due to Telkom maintenance and would be up and running in approximately 3 hours, which it was. The client Zone very good, you can manage all your products, reset ports, upgrade or downgrade services although I would say the Afrihost one is slightly easier to navigate.

Well webafrica gives you the extra data that you can use for downloading at night. I think it might give them just the edge over afrihost.

But the best solution is vox fat pipe + uncapped bolt on. ;)

I'm currently using Afrihost for my uncapped data & webAfrica for my capped data.

My WebAfrica account is purely for their afterhours download as they have some Download Plus special going on.
Afrihost is generally by all accounts the best ISP out there, though as of late they've been quite severe on the uncapped shaping.
Their capped bundles are the best however.

Hi ktmpixie,

Hows has the account performed thus far?

Drop me a PM if you ever need assistance.

I switched over from Axxess to WebAfrica last night. I'm less than impressed (10mpbs uncapped).

Local ping times are ridiculous (+100ms against all local CPT servers!), and I'm having trouble watching YT vids. If this continues I'll cancel next month.
