Maybe it's worth pointing out here that any WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) visual-based HTML editor will inevitably create superbly messy code.

That doesn't matter if you're just doing one little website with five pages, and that's it. Online it definitely is a case of your house is only as stable as your foundation ... anything bigger (and websites do tend to grow rapidly), you may start regretting your decision for a quick fix.

I'd say the best solution is to go for WordPress and buy a nice custom-made theme that's easy to personalise ... there are more free ones than you can shake a stick at anyway, and stacks of useful plug-ins for free too. I'd choose that over a WYSIWYG editor any day, not least because there's a lot more human intelligence behind it, it's upgradable and it's more secure.

I actually don't care. As long as it receives text input and has some form of syntax highlighting I'm ok with it.

Vim is powerful i find IDE's just to cumbersome, especially when there is next zero drag and drop design going on.
