I find it disturbing that a local email provider webmail.co.za is now using overseas mail servers.

I found this out when my telkom cap ran out & was using local only bandwidth & could not download any mail.

I am sure that it used to work previously.

Anyone else share my sentiments

Webmail.co.za despite being local sucked so much I rarely (read: once for this one account I had) used it.

Get yourself a Gmail account. Forward all mail to your isp account. Dunno about sending mail though.

Even better get yourself a gig from afrihost. It's not impossible to add R29 to ones internet budget.

Problem is that my email address is now well known & distributed....always difficult to change on stationery etc.

I'm surprised that Telkom doesn't offer some kind of top-up service. Local-only bandwidth has always sounded to me a bit like something China is still thinking about doing. :D

register a domain and get a proper email address.

@webmail and @hotmail looks k@k on a business card.

Oh yeah very unprofessional, with all the cheap hosting abroad and locally its the way to go, so many SME are still running one email address for many internet users too within their [email protected]

I don't blame them for hosting overseas, as local bandwidth (though it's getting cheaper) is still overpriced in comparison to USA UK etc.

We have a few servers in the USA and for the amount of traffic they do - we'd be broke if we hosted it on our South Africa Servers.

My wife is has a Gmail account for business and from what i understand, if the international gigs are up then gmail does not work. Is there away around this?

As someone mentioned earlier, forward her gmail emails (this can be done in gmail settings) to a local email account with your isp. Then simply get the mail from the isp email account.

Then if you decide to switch isps, just turn off the forwarding or forward it to somewhere else.
