Hi guys,

Our company is looking at creating a complete new website from scratch, what is the price we can expect to pay for the site:

The site will only have 4 pages.
There will be a user login section.

We will create each client's login details.
Reports will be typed at our office and then converted to pdf, uploaded to the site, and then the clients will be
able to view/download the reports.

The contact us page will have have our contact details and a contact us form as well.

A couple of thousand rand I suppose for something decent. R1000 for more budget friendly options. Any developer could kinda do that. Just make sure you see their previous work before you decide on a developer.

Our current budget for the site is R15,000 - R20,000 and I was afraid its not enough ?

I could give you a web application for 20k. Yours sounds like a simple brochure website. With some very basic functionality. Ill send you a PM of someone I recommend that can do custom development for a good price.

Not much. You need website design, SEO, architecture, etc

You get what you pay for but a small guy / private job should be about half of a digital agency and you could do it for that price. I did something similar for a large group that manages complexes and it was a very easy site to do - frontend took 4 days to work on all browsers (I was still working against IE6 and my frontend is always pixel perfect) and backend was done in 3 days.

Keep in mind that your site has to be responsive in that it must work on tablets and smart phones - your clients need to be able to view it on whatever device they want. This needs not be an expensive exercise as the developer could use a framework like bootstrap to do this (I've moved all my development over to Bootstrap and JQuery mobile with great success).

Are you going to need constant support or will you be satisfied if the developer hands over the source code after the sign-off?

You forgot an important part. Hosting.
Also what language and db?

15-20k sounds okay, however, I sincerely doubt that uploading PDF's for clients and having them login/download them would be the extent of the feature list.

I would *highly* recommend having a brain storming session as to what you'd like your website to have COMPLETELY. As in, "want to have the clients write complaints to xyz through a type of incident system" or whatever it is.

it will give the company who's doing the website the right information so that when you do want to add that functionality, you're not looking at a total rewrite.

Phasing the site (phase 1 would be the 4 pages, with CMS capability, and the login/PDF section) so that when you do have extra money, you can implement extra features without having to pay for ALL of it again and/or being fleeced/being told it's impossible
