Hi

Im trying to develop a website for a club.
Although I can code PHP and some, web developing is not really my skillset, nor the costing in the industry.

I am just wondering what would be a reasonable price to develop a website that looks like this:
(Its similar to www.investing.com however my site wont be feeding in live prices,
its just basically the top bar, user administration, a forum, a posting by users and some sub topics).

I'd just like to know what a reasonable price would be from a professional for something like this,
and if I maintained it afterwards.

I do understand it comes down to the individual or company, but I guess I'm looking for
ballpark figure to understand my choices.

Any assistance would be appreciated with this.

What you describe is too generic for anyone to actually give you a price.

Maybe a bit more detail will help us ?

Is is a member only site ?
Do you require member management ? What sort or management ? Paid ? Subscription ? Payment handling ?

Are there public pages ? What sort of content ?

Forum ? Private forum or public forum?

I think by now you get the picture ?)

You images are not really giving anyone something to quote on. "A menu does not a website make"

Maybe look at a CMS system like Wordpress / Joomla / Drupal with add-ons to fulfil your specific needs.

As it is for a club and a lot of clubs dont have a lot of money you can minimise costs by exploring this avenue.

Also CMS system usually have a large depisotory of useful plugins and addons for club management.

Thank you for the response, I will follow up with suggested CMS systems

but to answer the questions, some of the pages will be free, some for registered users (also free) and some for subscribed users.
So eventually it will need payment handling.

The content for all of these pages Ive written already so thats fine.

What Im concerned about is handling the club members, I want to write a script that sends
an email about the next meeting, on the website they must be able to click on RSVP. (similar to www.meetup.com).

Its these little additions that I struggle with making it hard to simply just use a template.

Something like that you should be able to find as an add-on. For example if you Google "Wordpress RSVP module" you can find numerous links to modules that could work for you. I just did that and found quite a few that could work.

Once you have chosen your CMS platform, getting someone to write a module for your specific needs should be a lot more cost effective than trying to develop an entire framework.

If you choose to go the Wordpress route, I would be happy to write a plugin for you if you dont come right with the readily available plugins. You can always PM if you decide to use Wordpress.

I have done quite a bit of Wordpress development so I could help you if your decide to go that route.

Thanks I appreciate the help

I'll look into wordpress then.

You can do all this with wordpress, you have a plugin for every single thing you mentioned and managing members is a breeze. In WP, there's a plugin for almost anything. Handling payment is also very easy and there are many plugins.

Busy converting TravelGo to Wordpress and it's the BEST idea I've ever had. Content management is a breeze and the most custom work is in the Admin area, and guess what, there are plugins to change stuff there too. Just beware, too many plugins might do more harm than good. But your site sounds pretty basic. About 30k - 40k basic as mentioned.

I will definitely give Wordpress a go but quite honestly looking at it
I think I might be stupid to use it.

Managed to get something right, eventually I will have to move Wordpress but for the moment
I kinda did a quick cheat to get it going by just using stylesheets and Divs.
