Hi guys,

I'm trying to do a little web dev of my own, but just for fun. I'm not looking to pay someone to make a site for me or anything. I just want to learn to do some web dev so that in the future if I have a business I can make my own website or something.

Anyway, I've gone through a few of the online tuts at www.w3schools.com and have done very basic html for engineering purposes (online reporting etc), but I understand there are free templates and stuff available online which help out making an more aesthetic website?

Can anyone please point me towards those templates and examples of sites made with them? Or any info for that matter to get me on my way...

I am an electronic engineer, so I can program (be it in C, Labview and a few scripting languages), but that doesn't really help making a kickass website :p.

Any help would help.

try a few cms's (content management system's) like wordpress, joomla etc, all of the coding is done for you, all you need to do is to customise it..

If you want to learn coding I suggest you take a look at the Lynda.com training videos.. They have various different languages that you can choose from

Yes I used Lynda.com vids
The html one is ok but I really found the css one valuable.

I must warn against the Javascript essential training with dori Smith
Omg she confused the bejeezus outta me :wtf:
I spent ages trying to get my head around rudimentary stuff that some dude on youtube got through to me in a jif :)
As far as ive seen the php essentials is also good, haven’t gotten too far one that one yet

i have started to use wordpress for all webdev. Its powerful, easy to change and configure. brilliant stuff
