Don't know about anyone else, but I find the current batch of "food" websites of little informative value and boring as all hell. People who carry out reviews seem either too afraid to speak their minds or they have no clue whatsoever about food. Each review seems to be the same ad nauseum regurgitation of the same old rhetoric. FFS people use your imagination ... enjoy the food (or not) and tell us about it
Also usefull would be a section on food shopping - Where to find freshest ingedients if you do your own cooking... it could even rely on visitors to the site to share.

Anyways, that's my rant for the day ... was looking for somewhere Jozie North to take the wench for dinner tonight that was not the usual run of the mill.

Yeah Wombles is great ... just not "different" if you know what I mean. It's been the standard something-to-celebrate spot for us for the last 2 years or so.

Thanks for the suggestions though ... I'll swing by this Cite place and check it out

yea i know what you mean about wombles not being different enough.

Well hope you like Cite then. Hard to think off the top of my head. :)

There is also another restaurant further down bompas road on the left hand side called Sides. It looks like a house they have converted into a restaurant. I haven't been there myself but it looks really cool.

Am I the only A type personaility around here??! How can we advise you on a restaurant if we have no inkling of the kind of cuisine you want to enjoy?

And as for the "website", what on earth are you talking about?

You take shots in the dark like i did :p

In regards to websites i do see his point. If you google restaurant reviewer websites they generally don't really offer all that much and they waffle on about the decor and don't really say much about the food. I think he is after a simple uncomplicated website that says right i've eaten here and it was a crap experience and here's why or i loved it and here's why too. Instead of the extra fluff they put in the review itself? That's my perception anyway.

how about aphrodisiac? quite expensive but very classy.

or Carnivores. they are really a nice venue - great food too, and it's different.

In that case, he can buy the latest edition of Eat Out magazine, which gives EXTENSIVE reviews of the top 1 000 restaurants in SA, with seperate sections on all the main cities.

Correct. I was having a rant about the standard of reviews rather than trying to get advice on where to go tonight ...not that the advice is not appreciated just that where to eat has been discussed in other threads.
I sometimes get the impression that the reviews are carried out by people who don't actually enjoy eating.

@ blu - I eat anything (yes I mean anything) ... my only preference is good food.

1. Roots at the Forum Homini Hotel at the Cradle of Mankind.

2. Roseboys in Illovo.

thanks Blu

Was a bit dissapointed with Roots hence my jaded attitude towards eat out (they rated it in the top 10 - their review doesn't even say anything about what they ate). I found the ideas great but the execution pretty mediocre and service quite sad

Haven't tried Roseboys yet

Mc Donalds baby YEH!!!!!!
I'd rather squirt sulphuric acid up my bottom

Plaka at Cresta its amazing there ;)

I'm form a Greek family and my Yaya would have stormed into the kitchen to dish out a biotch slap to the chef for what he did to the mousaka and dolmades
There are far better Greek restaurants around... you don't have to go to a franchise... try Byzance in Lonehill or if you feel a bit adventerous As Greek As It Gets in Cullinan - tell Cuzzin Stavros I sent you ;)
