Hi Guys

I am looking at starting a website for a business idea, The site is going to have a fair amount of streaming audio and video- more than most sites. Do I want to host in SA or will it be better for me to get it hosted overseas?
If so any good companys that I can look at using?
I am also told that myadsl is hosted overseas?

Thanks! :)

MyADSL was hosted overseas but because they're sponsored by Hertzner (iirc), it is hosted locally.

It's better to host it overseas as you'll be able to get much more bandwidth for less money (due to Telkom local hosting pricing is exorbitant).

Good Hosts? Webafrica and Effective Hosting (I think you can PM the user 'Bullfrog' for more info as he runs the company)

If u want local traffic take a look at Webafrica's Linux Business Solutions.

You can get a lot more bandwidth for much less if you host overseas. I'm using siteground. Apolix may also be worth checking out. They are in SA, but they host overseas, so you can pay in rands.

When is launch date?
Hepparently somebody is going to force teklom to not charge for local bandwidth.
But .. then again .. I would not hold my breath unless you like being a smurf.

Thanks for the response so far , the site is going to be aimed at local users so most of the bandwith will be local but obvouisly i would need a far amout of international bandwith also.

WebAfrica is 50c/mb for local overages?

R500/Gb Ouch.

I think it is 9c/mb on Afrihost.

Still R90/Gb is R90/Gb too much.

I do international hosting, servers located in the USA.

I think if you're going to have streaming media and large files, it would be best to host it overseas for the time being. If local does suddenly become a lot cheaper and in turn also makes local hosting a little cheaper, then you can always move to a local host. Problem is also that a lot of hosts charge a lot extra for overages, so if you use too much bandwidth, you might just get a big bill at the end of the month.

If you're interested in what I have to offer, take a look at the link in my sig.

Cool gaterhost doesent look bad, neither does siteground.com .
Bullfrog-I see the professional package only has 2 gig storage if i needed to upgrade at at later stage could a specific package be made for me?

Yes, we will make a custom package should the need arise.

Sorry for the late'ish reply, pm me for faster replies next time! :)

Thanx for the mention Krygerleeu :D

We have a number of large sites with customised packages - and we can easily set out a custom upgrade path for you as well.

You are welcome to PM me if you want any more details.
