I just optimised the **** out of the following site (main page only for the moment) I can do a bit more with the css, but that I'll tackle later, for the moment I just tried to minimise the amount of http request by using using css sprites etc. and combining as much as possible in one file

I just want some feedback on how you guys perceive the speed taking in account it is hosted in dallas @ the moment (might move it closer)

thanks

the url is

http://www.atoz.co.za

Pretty average on 3G. Not fast and not slow either ;)

I might, but currently i should be on quite a fast resource/network (the bill is higher as texo's as well) , texo is still overseas so that won't make a difference. I just want the general feel how fast it feels

256k adsl + FF 3.5 here, that link loaded pretty much instantly.

Seemed to take a bit long to find the dns entry but after that was quick.

yep - quick here on 384 dsl. Can you do something to fix some of M$'s sites too?:D

Not bad, a few other things you might consider is:

Images:

Try and get your host to switch on content caching for images/js and css file for at least a month (perhaps longer if the site doesn't change much in terms of graphics). You would possibly save about 30-40% on bandwidth and repeat visitors would load faster.

JavaScript / CSS files:

Give them a version number in the file name itself. This will ensure if you do change something in the code that the cached copy would be renewed.

Other than that it looks pretty spot on. Didn't load really fast as I'm busy downloading a torrent but loaded at a decent speed regardless. I'm on a 384kbps

I tackled the content caching allready in .htaccess and I started versioning my css allready, the javascript probaly won't change as it is a stable script which hasn't been updated for a while now, but if it changes I'll just tack on a number as well
