My client was complaining that they were using enormous amount of 3G data. He has used 4gigs over the past 5days. I switch off automatic updates, but still using alot.

I then installed a data monitor, Sha something and it showed that when I open a normal website it uses like 30mb. These are websites like Gmail, Vodacom. That just doesn't sound right to me.

He is situated at the airport, so unfortunately no ADSL option.

Can someone please guide me or tell me if this is correct or what should I do. There are 2 laptops, 1 with Windows 7 and 1 with Windows 8.

Install Netlimiter or some such and see whats taking the bandwidth.

I'd also run an AV scan and Malwarebytes scan as its most likely malware. Sites like GMAIL shouldn't use much more than 10-20MB an hour.

I had something similar on my phone - switched browsers from Miren to Dolphin, and the problem went away. I know these are windows laptops, but are they maybe using an experimental browser?

iPhone ?
If YES.
Then ask (Check with client) that iCloud is turned off on 3G - I chomped about 2 gigs of my own data in a similar fashion
