Websites failing to load?

Yes, its not a DNS problem.
Sites don't load and then you hit refresh and they do, but then then the next page on the same site has the same problem again

I suspect is a problem with Telkoms cache servers. One or more of them in the Cape Town cluster (are you all in CT southern suburbs?) is probably faulty.

I do wish Telkom would implement proper monitoring of their DNS and cache servers.

Thanks, at least we know what the problem could be. :)

Yes, Im in the southern suburbs, Kenilworth/Claremont Area.

Anyone know how or if we can fix this? Being a cache server, I suspect we cant.....:(

Thanks

Same problem in N subs of Cape Town. International access is extremely slow!
I tried to load www.cnn.com as a test.
I get no response for at least 20 seconds, then the site starts to load and eventually finishes loading another 30 seconds later.

Normally I can load this site within 3 to 5 seconds? I'm on 384Kbps with WebAfrica, SAIX shaped.

maybe Telkom should reboot their stuff every 30 minutes :)

Its month end time again - normally everything comes crashing down!

Ditto.

Webafrica, Rondebosch (Belmont Rd exchange / Southern suburbs)

I also tried loading cnn.com, took literally over 30 seconds to load...

Some international sites also don't load on first attempt, but with refreshing I get there eventually.. I guess the same symptoms as the rest of you... I've noticed this for the last 3 days or so...

..sigh

I'll do a me-too.

I thought at first it may be the browser but happens on Firefox as well. Seems to be limited to ' international ' sites - a trace doesn't even begin:-
'Unable to resolve target system name www.website.net'

I presume this must be happening to everyone at least those going via Webafrica - and presume it's beyond their control.

ROFL...I just patched winsock with the fix on dial-up in desperation..I'm such noob!! But yeah, Telskommel is definitely cache strapped. Edge, gprs also giving me url error's etc. Yawn at Telskommel and Neotottie!!!!!.

Guess its only myasl thats reliable!

Telskok ADSL - The ultimate international website detector!

*edit* and OMG, they don't charge you extra for it! ;P

Um... how exactly does one set which proxy to use for this? I mean, I know how to set one in IE or whatever, but I'm guessing it's something I need to change in my router or something for this case.

Got one of those original white Telkom Marconi wireless adsl modems.

I'll add another 'me too' here in Milnerton, Cape Town. Getting quite tired of it. Telkom is one thing I won't miss when I leave SA in two weeks!

I found this on the webafrica forums, don't know if this is the problem we are all referring to or not:
