Im getting married in May.

My family has a really traditional British background and initially I wanted to wear a morning suit with my two grooms men. Turns out non of the major suit rental places in Cape Town stock them anymore due to lack of demand.

Managed to find a place but the suit itself felts like I was wearing a rolled up carpet.

Next option was to have a tailor make one, R5k a pop which I didn’t thing was too bad. Then I actually wondered how much I would wear a morning suit after my wedding if at all considering I only wear suits for weddings and funerals and the odd work function every 5 years.

So Im heading back to getting a standard two / three piece suit. Happy to spend some decent cash on one for myself (10k) and then about 3 -4k for my two groomsmen.

So couple questions:

  1. Anyone know decent suit rental places in Cape Town who know what a morning suit is and has rental units?
  2. Based on my budgets, should I have one tailor made or go to a high end retail place (Hugo Boss) and purchase one for myself and have it adjusted?
  3. Two suits for my groomsmen, thinking country road? Any other suggestions?

Can't answer your question but I'm drooling at the thought of a Hugo Boss suit.

Firstly congratulations, wish you an incredible future.

1. Sorry I know people in JHB, sorry.

2. Ultimately, its your choice hey. You can make a store bought suit look amazing by tailoring it to be bespoke for you, and you'd look just as dashing as a from scratch one. If you are not the type of person that looks at the fabric book, going through the myriad of fabrics and styles and don't want to spend the time getting measured and the fittings thereafter, then ready made is an option. Suggestions on suite style, 2 button thin lapel , double breast. Slim fit suit, adjust length to be tapered down the pant legs.

3. Edgars have an in house brand as well, can't remember their name. Zara might have some interesting options too. Its worth a look what the foreign owned suit stores as well.

Shoes, get some balling shoes too, as much as its about the suit, you need to show off them treads man!

Condolences.

Thanks for all the well wishes you miserable bunch!

Went to Hugo Boss today and was completely disappointed 2 options for a black suit with a price tag of 13k (still fine) service was average. No plain black ties, no waist coats etc..

The had a brain wave and decided to go onto the hugoboss.com domain and get everything together. It was going well until I realised the import duties and vat pretty much equaled the price of everything I wanted to buy. Basically would cost the same to fly to Europe put on the suit and fly home.

Im trying one more place tomorrow for suit hire and then going to get something made from scratch for around 5k

As much as I want top tier I also realise I WFH and hardly wear collared shirts and long pants.

You stated you wanted traditional morning suit, you dont get more traditional than an English Prince. You welcome by the way.

Congrats OP. I went the way of suit hire since I rarely ever wear suits. The one I have is quite plain but good enough for the odd wedding or funeral.

OT (or is it still on topic?) but we're tying the knot on Saturday so I'll report back soon on how it went:D.I found a lovely tuxedo at the local hire emporium with a dapper-looking waistcoat and it cost a smidge over R1300 for the weekend, which is really not bad.

Are you sure you want to get married?
Congrats either way!

Nobody gives a toss whether it's Hugo Boss or Hugo Sanchez.
Since this is a once off I say go custom but at least make it so that the jacket can be worn for romantic dinners with the new wifey.

PS - send pics of the wedding.
