Howzit,

Need some advice on putting on weight. What products from Dischem etc would I need to look at ? Any brand names would be a help before I actually go to the shop.

Would it be better to go the anabolic steroid road ? I have found a website that can deliver them.

Thanks for any help.

Just eat healthy food, a lot of it.
If you don't feel overly full force yourself to eat a healthy snack. Then make sure you do strength training 3-4 times a week so you gain muscle.

I am assuming you mean muscle, then @B-1 advice is correct.

If you just want weight, carbs, carbs, carbs. Drink beer, eat slap chips, double down on bread. Look at the diet of Japanese Sumo Wrestlers.

Just for clarification, why do you want to put on weight?

Anabolic steroids will make you gain weight, but only temporarily. And if you take it and don't train harder than ever (not aerobic exercises, but weight training), you'll gain mostly water weight, and simply appear chubby.

Some protein shakes in the past have made me gain weight, but it didn't feel like anything else than a layer of flab, so I didn't like that.

Just try hyperbolic mass supplements on top of your normal eating. Some have in excess of 700 calories per serving.

Likely a scam. My word ppl need to be careful with what they put in their bodies. Would never even consider the steroid route before just plain simple food and supplement only if really necessary.

Also add current weight height and maybe goals. Including current fitness level etc.

My 2c just figure out your basal metabolic rate and eat more GOOD quality calories.

Might be easier for you guys to chime in.

To pick up weight you need to eat more. But note that if you grew up as a skinny guy and are now an adult then all the weight will go to your middle, then maybe a bit to your upper legs/butt.

On the eating side you have to eat more regularly and more at a time.

Is this experience talking?

Yeah I grew up skinny, mostly living off of rice.

When I was in my 20's I lifted some weights and put on some muscle, but I had a big back operation in my late 30's which canceled any serious further exercise.

Now in my 40's I'm just skinny again, but if I drink/eat too much it just goes to the middle.

I was waiting for the OP to elaborate on their situation and goals but I don't really have anything to add on what's already been said - eat a slight calorie surplus, lift heavy things (which can include yourself) and focus on good nutritional quality in your diet.

Myfitnesspal is quite good for calculating your basal metabolic rate and tracking your calorie intake versus expenditure and a training program can be optimised for building muscle. We can also come back to sprinting workouts being something that can help build muscle in conjunction with a resistance program - it is supposed to stimulate production of human growth hormone.

The other 59 million people is SA try to lose weight. The OP wants to gain weight. He has a lone battle! Why on earth would one want to gain weight/get fat?......unless he wants to build muscle, which would be OK.

Even if he wants to use anabolic steroid?
Probably not. I do not have any useful knowledge in this field as I never was into body building, but more into belly building, which makes the fight focus on losing weight

Being underweight is a thing for some people from a physical and mental health perspective. Also some athletes, apart from body builders, might need to meet certain body composition goals - boxer needing to make a certain higher weight class for instance.

@BBSA 's question as to why the OP wants to gain weight was very much on point IMHO.

Cooking oil, margarine and any high processed fast food that contains such.. also, white stuff (carbs) mash potatoes, rice maize porridge.. And of course, lots of sugar.
