Weight Loss Thread 2014

And mister, we'll see about that ;)

You probably won't. The damage is slow... I'm talking about the health of future generations. But on your part, you will definitely fall short of omega 3 fatty acids as most people are not good converters from ALA to DHA/EPA. But as the years go by you probably will not be able to work that out as your mental health declines. The brain is about 60% fat, holding 25% of the body's cholesterol despite being 2% by weight. (Numbers may be off, but you get the picture)

In which case you will find the people who avoid animal products have managed to breed exceedingly well in India :D

There is a small subset of people who do have the genetics to do it, but for most of us, the end result is damaged health. I think the estimates are less than 25% of the gene pool? I'm not sure on the numbers.

Because you don't get Omega 3 in plants of course. Got it...

I think he mentioned that it is more difficult for mammals to absorb the Omega-3's from plants than from animal sources, don't quote me though :o

The form of omega 3 in plants is ALA, but the conversion to DHA & EPA is often substandard in people. Some people are okay, others are not. If you are vegetarian you would do a great service to yourself to supplement with fish oils. Vegans on the other hand.... you're just going to have let the cookie crumble the way the cookie is going to crumble! It's an absolute gamble!

Oh well. I'm vegan so as long as the cookie has no egg and milk in it, I'll have it :D

But in all honesty, I've done my research and my diet is very healthy and balanced. I just cannot go back to eating animal products no matter what. I can't detach myself emotionally from it. Personal thing. Not forcing anyone to do it.

I absolutely respect, and admire your decision. The way animals are treated in the traditional food industry is utterly despicable, and it needs to change. I hope for your sake you have the genetics to thrive with your choice, but do bare in mind the fact that there is the possibility you may not.

Guys, what's the verdict on gem squash on LCHF. I have never eaten veggies or fruit so now I have told my wife (who is also on LCHF) to make whatever she wants and I will try it. Yesterday the veg was brussel sprouts in a creamy sauce with lots of diced bacon alongside lamb chops - it was very good and the first time I have ever eaten brussel sprouts.

Tonight she put mince inside a half a gem squash with grated cheddar on top which was also great. I counted 5 carbs per half a gem squash - is that ok?

Seems okay-ish if you're keeping track of your carbs and it's within your daily allowance. And that brussel sprout and lamb chop dish sounds awesome.

You tried that last year remember:p

Yes and last year I lost 8kgs in just over 3 months.
Alas over december I became a proverbial cookie monster and ate everything I could see.

Currently I am down 5kgs. Another 5Kgs to go.

Got to make it a lifestyle change or you end up in the yo-yo dieting rut.

Im able to do moderation and keep the weight off.
I still avoid carbs where I can though but the odd sweet thing hasnt harmed my weight over the last 2 months.

I am weighing up the pros and cons and implementing it with my lifestyle
The no-sugar thing is easy for me and quick to implement and it allows me to accommodate the fact that I might have an "play day" once a week where carbs might be abused.
