Weird ADSL problem

So my latency randomly goes to hell during peak hours. However if I go to my router and switch it to the ADSL2 profile, at which point the line drops completely, and then switch it back to the ADSL2+ profile, the problem goes away almost completely (minor spikes from 170 ping are better than 350+ ping between 6 and 10 pm).

Any idea what might be causing this?
