Hey guys,

I went to my friends place earlier this morning to help him with his dsl installation etc. First I tested with Telkom's guest account to see if the router is in a working order. We connected successfully to telkom.co.za.

Then I entered his cybersmart account info, connected successfully to his cybersmart account, but as soon as you want to access any other website, it doesnt load the site. I tried intl sites, local sites, nothing wanted to open. Out of frustration, I decided to try telkoms page again, and low and behold, telkom.co.za opened in a flash !

So, the only site he can open and access with his cybersmart account is telkom.co.za. No other site wants to open. He uses a telscum Mega 100WR router.

Before I forget, this was a self-install, and I did notice something strange with regards to his upstream/downstream speed. He applied for a 384/128 line, but his line syncs at 1956/384. Other time it was 2284/384, it seems as if they installed him a 4MB line, cause I know the 4MB lines have a upload speed of 384. I told him to go and rectify his connection type otherwise they gonna charge 4MB line rental instead of 384..

So what can the problem be ? Is it a fault at his exchange with regards to his port ? I removed his dial-up settings and all of that. I also could connect with my local only account, but still no local sites opened...

Any ideas will be appreciated..

I went to the verification page, but his order number doesnt have those last to digits after the hash, so that really didnt help my cause at all :(

Cant he just phone telkom and ask them to verify it on their system ?

Call 10219, tell them you lost your order number, give them your landline, they will ask you for your address, then they will give you your order number. Put that into the verify site and sorted. Just activated my ADSL last night, and so far so good ^_^

Most of the time the last two digits, after the "-", is 11 (i've seen allot of order numbers thus far), so I dont know why they even need it. Strange that Cybersmart did not verify your line for you already. I called them, and told them I'm on my way to pick up the Modem. When I Got there, they verified the line, and I was on my way home. :D

I had a similar problem, my line was synced at 640 down and 384 up for my 384k line.
And I couldnt verify or go to any other websites.

I phoned a telkom tech (somehow) and he said they assigned the wrong port to me and gave me like a 512k port...so he went to correct it at the box and my line speed went down and I could verify....hope that helps

Thanx guys for the responses. He phoned 10219, gave his order number and the last two digits that were omitted was 61, he verified, and everything is working 100%...
