Hi, I'm on an Afrihost Vumatel fibre connection at home. Suddenly we noticed that the catalog content on Netflix just reduced.

Used alternative connections on Vodacom and MTN and it's there. As is full catalog. I am using the same devices. Switch back to Afrihost and the titles are gone.

Even went as far as using my Afrihost mobile connection and the titles are there.

Did some digging and learnt that each large ISP in SA has their own Netflix cdn. Netflix has some instructions on how to check which cdn I am using. When on Afrihost mobile I never connect to this "dud" cdn. Only on fibre I am routed to it.

I logged tickets with Afrihost and did numerous checks and tests. They can't find anything and don't want to escalate it any higher. I need to take it up with Netflix was the final feedback.

Am going to move to Cool Ideas now.

Anyone else experience something like this. Can escalate this higher at Afrihost. No one is keen to investigate. I also learnt that Netflix cdns go out of synch.

update: Did a factory reset on my deco s7 router. All setting are stick standard, same issue. Routed to this "dud" cdn. Checked with Netflix and followed all debugging steps. Nothing. Reach out to my ISP.

Would love to know if anyone on Afrihost fibre can view any of the following titles on Netflix
Friends
Schitts Creek
Creature Cases
One tree hill

I'm with Afrihost and can see all those titles on Netflix. I'm not using Afrihost's DNS servers. Try changing your DNS or contact support to request a new public IP, then check again.

It's possible your IP was incorrectly flagged as non-residential/VPN/proxy, which is why you're seeing the reduced global catalog instead of the regional one. I've run into the same issue when using a VPN with Netflix.

While using Netflix through a VPN, we will only show you TV shows and movies we have worldwide rights for, like Squid Game or Stranger Things.

If you don't see TV shows and movies that are available for your country, you may need to turn your VPN off.

Hi.

Please share the ticket reference or drop me a DM with your account details.

Hi.

Please share the ticket reference or drop me a DM with your account details.
WML-300-62027 and LXJ-486-70607

Both tickets were closed by Afrihost because I had to make contact with Netflix. Turns out Netflix support says reach out to your ISP.

I do not feel like Afrihost has done enough of an investigation here.

Thank you.
Checking, I will get back to you.

For the Afrihost representative and everyone else who might be interested in this issue.

These are the Netflix CDN details that my home devices use when streaming content on Afrihost based on connection type. Notice how the Fibre connection differs with c002.jnb001 when compared to the mobile connection.

Afrihost Fibre - Netflix
Current CDN (a/v/t): c001.jnb001.afrihost.isp.nflxvideo.net, Id: 71667 / c002.jnb001.afrihost.isp.nflxvideo.net, Id: 71668 / ?

Afrihost Mobile - Netflix
Current CDN (a/v/t): c001.jnb001.afrihost.isp.nflxvideo.net, Id: 71667 / c001.jnb001.afrihost.isp.nflxvideo.net, Id: 71667 / ?

So the fibre connection is the issue, not mobile. Afrihost refused to even investigate this and closed my tickets saying Netflix serves content differently and this is how it is (Agent: Xolani after he checked with supervisors)

Overnight with me not making any changes to my home connection at all I noticed that the CDN details changed

Afrihost Fibre - Netflix (No Issues)
c003.jnb001.afrihost.isp.nflxvideo.net, Id: 82745 / c001.jnb001.afrihost.isp.nflxvideo.net, Id: 71667 / ?

Notice now the cdn c002 is no longer there and replaced with cdn c003. The Netflix catalog is showing full content now. I would love to understand what happened here and why Afrihost brushed off my investigation. Is there some weird routing in place because I am not using any VPN software.

Last comms from Afrihost.....
Good Morning XXXXXX

Hope this email finds you well, also apologize
for any inconvenience caused

Kindly note that upon checking I may confirm
that we have reported this further to our superiors
and after detailed investigations there is no issues found
and case was closed

Care to perhaps try and run traceroute and ping to the Netflix server
to raise directly to the provider as a fault

Hope this information was helpful

Many thanks
Do enjoy your day ahead

Hi.

Thank you. I have them from the shared tickets.

I understand that this has been frustrating. I apologise for the inconvenience caused during this period.
We are investigating.
WML-300-62027, the ticket is still open.

@WebGuy101 It has been logged with Netflix

Finally someone doing something from Afrihost, THANK YOU!

I hate to call out companies so publically but the level of service from your company has been really low to the point of lazy.

Not sure if you saw my message that since this morning the catalog is showing fully now and the only change is the Afrihost CDN changing. Check my feedback above. c002.jnb001.afrihost.isp.nflxvideo.net, Id: 71668 is not longer appearing to serve me content and this has been replaced with c003.jnb001.afrihost.isp.nflxvideo.net, Id: 82745

It seems like Afrihost is managing a Netflix CDN via the Netflix open connect program (https://openconnect.netflix.com/en/). So is this a Netflix to Afrihost issue?

Yes, we are managing the cdns through open connect.
For now, we are not seeing content filling issues from the cdn server and we have asked Netflix to check.
