Hi guys, I have a bit of a stumbler here so I was wandering if anyone can take a crack at it..

I have a 512mbps line at home, primary use for which is to connect to the VPN at work and be able to work from home. This used to work like a charm, until some maintenance at work broke everything and I was without access for a while.

Things came back to normal, and the sysadmin assured me that everything should work. I tried from home, no joy. I spoke to the sysadmin, he checked everything, and said that my settings on the server are exacly the same as for other users with DSL lines (and theirs work perfectly).

This is what happens - when I try and establish my VPN connection, everything works fine, username/password gets authenticated, and i get logged on. The problem is that the connection with, e.g. TrendMicro (which is done always when possible), connection to the fileserver, connection to Exchange server never happens.

I thought that this is definitely the setup problem, until i realised I can do it with no problems from Germany, I can do it with no probs from my cellphone, with all the same settings...it's just from my DSL line that it doesn't work.

Any ideas why? If you need any more background, please ask, I may come across as a newb in this post, but I am just strapped for time and typed this out as quickly and concisely as I could.

If you can, please help.

Thanks!

Good question, I will check. Obviously my local (Telkom assigned) IP is different, but I never actually looked at my address on the VPN.

Still doesn't explain the cellphone/overseas connectivity though?

Same as Snormossel - check your local IP (the one on your network card).

If it is not the same, go to Network Connections, right-click on your network card, go to Properties, highlight TCP/IP, click on Properties, click on Advanced, and make sure that there is no extra IP addresses added.

Had the same issue with the work's PC at home - I set it up for Internet Connection Sharing (which uses an 192.168.0.x range) and all of a sudden couldn't connect via VPN to my work (which also uses the same 192.168.0.x range). Solution was to disable the network card every time I wanted to log in to work - a bit of a schlepp really.

If the network card was disabled how did you connect?

Well it does actually explain it. Say your work IP is 192.168.1.254 and at home youve got the same then you will be able to connect but not do anything, so same ranges doesnt work. That is why you could get it right from cellphone/overseas cause cellphone is 10.10.xx.xx or whatever and the same goes for the overseas.

Thanks guys - sorry for not replying but for some reason I stopped getting notifications on the thread and I assumed there were no responses.

In any case - thanks a million - you were right about the IP addys - my home WiFi is (was) on the same range as at work. Changed that, everything works like a charm. Feel a bit bleak I never even thought in that direction :( but very happy that it's working :)

Thanks again.
