Hi all. My first post and sorry it is so long. Can someone please help me.
Bit of background. I am running small business server bridged with an ADSL router. This is a new router as the previous one packed up and it was replaced. Connected to the server are 9 pc logging onto domain. After the router was replaced I made all the configs on the router and connected it to the server. Everythings working fine except one bugger of a laptop. It can connect to the network but no luck going on internet. iIt has the same IP ragne and netmask. Excactly as all the other PC's (that work) When I activate the wireless network on the laptop and config it to run on the same netmask as the router I can get on directly through the router. I tried (due to ignorance maybe) to reinstall XP PRo but to no avail.

Can anyone help. Not sure what you need to know so ask away.

As usual. I have been working on this prob for hours now. And when I gave up and waited for someone to post a reply I got it working. My knowledge of networks are very limited. All the other pc's has the adsl router's ip as it's gateway. But for some reason I had to set the laptops gateway to the server's ip. I am glad it is fixed but would like to know why. All the pc's connects to a network hub and from there to the server. Would like to know.

In order for the router to be able to re-route requests to the internet on behalf of the pc requesting internet data, the router must be the one controlling the network packets, so it must be the first place the network packets are sent to. That is what a default gateway is ... it's the first place packets are sent to unless the computer in question knows better.
