Weird news server issue ?

I have a rather perplexing problem...

I have 2 ADSL contracts. One is through Ti (3GB), the other is a WebAfrica prepaid (local only).

When i connect through the router with my Ti username - I can download from news.saix.net with NO hassles.
However, when I connect using my WebAfrica username, I can't connect to the saix news server. :confused:

I connect (for both accounts) through news.saix.net:119 using Grabit.

I'm trying to get hold of Linux iso's, and don't want to use Ti bandwidth (for obvious reasons). ;)

Any help would be greatly appreciated and would earn the helper my greatest admiration. :)
 
Howzit and welcome to the forums.

Is your prepaid with WA IS or SAIX local? If it's IS, that'll explain why you can't connect.
 
Forget the News server use the ftp servers for the linux iso's.
 
Can't get IS prepaid local... are you using your username and password in grabit? If yes, try leave it blank, SAIX news server gave me issues when I filled it in...

Apart from the unanimous decision to use FTP, which distro are you trying to download? Perhaps someone in your area already has it and can just burn you a copy. I'm in the Sandton area and can give you Xubuntu 7.10, openSUSE 10.2 (DVD) and Kubuntu 7.10.

Let me know.

WOW geez, thank you for your offer. I'm trying to get hold of Fedora Core 8, finding it is like finding hen's teeth :rolleyes:

You guys have been very helpful, and I have nominated you guys to the Inter-galactic broadband i-know-stuff panel.

my WA saix local works with the settings you stated perfectly
 
Try use the Ip when connecting with WA instead of fqdn.

Is this the version you're looking for?
http://fedora.mirror.ac.za/fedora-linux-core/linux/releases/8/Fedora/i386/iso/Fedora-8-i386-DVD.iso
If so, I can download it while at university (might take a day or two). You could have it Monday.
