I have noticed something strange on my phone bill this month.
Normally my phone bill has a line rental amount of R80.95 excl. VAT.
This month the line rental was R182.79!!!excl. VAT.

What on earth could be the reason for this?? I noticed an unusually large amount likewise to the above after my line was first installed but thought nothing of it. Now, many months later, it happens again for no apparrent reason!

When you say "Weird Phone Bill" i must say that I have never recieved a telkom bill that did not give me the creeps.

That said my business account is also messed up, I am being charged for last months line rental a second time. All I did was tell them to change the account from one CC name to another. Not only that but the bastards have charged me 200 bucks to proccess this simple change, and that was after 2 visits to Telkom Direct.

Guys telkom have often charged me too much...

I phoned the head office, spoke 2 the manageress.
Told her that i was completely dissatisfied with the situation ( BTW im 17 years old and i had to fake being my dad coz he's the account holder )

And i asked for an immediate discount... hehe
And i got it...!

Take that Telskum!

I agree...Everytime I think I'm going to save on the line and have a low bill it's always higher...
It's like having a Birthday once a month and you recieve a birthday surprise in the post every month, without fail...
Strange though it may seem, that's one account that never gets lost in the post....

Today I received my first bill from telkom...

Yeah, you guessed it, they messed it up. I'm using the Closer option 2 while I wait for my adsl to be installed. As far as I know the Closer option 2 deal enables you to call any landline in SA in callmore time for free if the call is not longer than an hour. Well telkom charged me for each and every call as if I weren't on the Closer deal, and also charged me for the Closer package. I almost never made a call that wasn't during callmore time and most of them less than an hour and I've got the printout to prove it.

So I went down to their shoppie in a huff and had a good yell at a consultant. I know it's not the consultant's fault personally, but I felt like throwing a chair through their window, so I compromised. The consultant didn't really know what was going on with the bill, but I could see she knew the fault lay on their side. She said they'd do an "investigation" and would call me when they're done. All I know is I'm not paying the bill.

That's my rant.

Sorry about that.

TheSolumnOne...I think a lot of us have also had a fair amount of complaints about this option, I for one packed it up and went back to my old option...

Weird though it may seem...Pay the bill...And look for a cheaper option(Infinite call)...

The Closer option 2 dialup solution is only temporary for me. As soon as I get ADSL installed, I'm going to can that service and only pay the telephone line rental of R99 as I rarely use that line for actual phone calls (currently only uses it for dialup internet).

I don't think I'm going to pay that bill (atleast not all of it) because they clearly made a mistake. Unless there is some fine print about using the Closer deal for dailup internet. Wouldn't surprise me if there is. :/

What a surprise I received when a lady from telkom called me just now and informed me that the much (dubiously) advertised Telkom Closer Option 2 & 3 does not include calls to ISPs. I thus accept full responsibility for the bill and my mistake. My mistake being believing telkom would make a "fair" and "decent" option available for local calls. I should have learnt by now. Just goes to show once again that telkom is out to get you. Every time.

Did they tell you that this option was only if you used Telkom as a ISP?...Because they told me the same thing and I was charged accordingly to a different ISP...When they promoted this option they did not inform me of the option soley for being with Telkom ISP...based on this was my arguement, after long hours to Accounts Dept I finally got a rebate (Not much but it was something) and even after this my bill was still very high......I went back to Infinite call...
