Hey guys last night I was surfing the net when my pc screen just went black and displayed "Power saving mode" pressing any key did nothing, so I restarted the pc and when loading it installed updates? Could this be the cause of the screen going into the sleep mode?

is it an issue I need to be worried about? Cheers guys

Some new PC's automatically switches to power saving mode after extensive periods of watching pronz, as a safety measure for the user :p

Hahaha, knew someone would bring up the pronz. but seriously this does worry me as I built this rig about 3 weeks ago. I think it must be the Intel Update manager?

Try the following:

1) Unplug the screen from the power and PC
2) Reboot the PC with only one screen and then remove the extend my display option, in display option
3) Plug second screen into PC first
4) Then plug second screen into the power
5) Extend the display to the second screen

This will allow the PC to recognize the screen before it goes into power saving mode

Usually monitors will display/ enter the power save mode when not receiving a signal from your graphics adapter, meaning there was no video being transmitted from your system unit to the monitor at that time. You can try figure it out from there as there a couple of reasons that could happen
