Weird problem in games

So last night out of the blue, my framerates hit a sudden massive drop. Playing Skyrim, textures started going missing and the game became unplayable. I tried other games and I get the same issue. Crawling framerate and disappearing/garbled textures on almost anything I tried. Could play skyrim on med/high with an average of 40fps.

Specs: E4400 cpu, 8800GTX, 3GB RAM.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Heat/Broken Capacitors. Try turning off anti-aliasing.

Could be a lot of things.. From software to hardware. I think it could be on the GPU side, maybe driver issues or even the GPU starting to fail.

I think it's a dying card. And, unfortunately, you really should look at upgrading the whole PC. People will advise you to try baking the card or whatever and you MAY have some luck, but it's a slog and it will anyway die before too long. Sorry to bear bad news.

Are you running driver version 331.65?

Assuming you have Windows 7 32Bit

Good Point! Try go back to a stable driver release, drivers can sometimes mess up everything...

If it doesnt happen from the beginning it sounds like an overheating issue, it is summer now...

It's overheating for sure. 8800gtx is a 7 year old card that was known for running hot from the beginning. It's surprising it lasted so long.

Found the problem. Turned out one of the power connectors somehow came out. Thank you much for the help, gents.

I used to do that every three months or so with an 8800gts with great success. That is until one day I forgot it in the oven...

What you're describing has happened to me before, a capacitor on my gfx blew

Lol yea and I was about to post a wanted ad on carbonite too. Suppose I should look at upgrading the whole rig eventually.
