Weird problem when installing windows.

When installing 98 on this old laptop the installation works.when installing 2000 on this old laptop all goes well and it works..but when installing Xp the laptop just powers off during the setup while coping files.I tried formatting and this completed..but during the copy process the thing just shuts down.I did diagnostics on all hardware and all is fine with no error.This laptop had oem xp pro on it longtime ago.why is this pc doing this.i have no clue.i even tried installing a oem xp but it still cuts off during the install. Any takers on this. I am stumped...also there is on heat issue. Why would 98 and 2000 work but not Xp.I mean it had oem xp on it

After 17 failed installations it finally installed..I still dont know why it happened.ghost in the machine.What i do know now is that sp3 and direct x wont install at all.i get errors.Its no biggy just another day in paradise.
