I was downloading some new Suse ISOs on Friday night, then on Saturday morning I had 1gb of my cap left. After I checked my internet just died, it connected, and everything worked except for HTTP... so no webpages. So I didn't really use it the whole of yesterday except for MSN.

Now this morning I get a bandwidth report and apparantly not using my connection for a day meant I used 1GB more bandwidth.. So then I was capped which still made no differnce.

I phoned IBurst support and they said it was because I was capped, but I told them I didn't think it was, since when I was capped before and it was slower, but the pages did load stil.. This was more of a hardcap for HTTP, FTP and a few other protocols. Ok so they said they'd get back to me.

They then phone me back an hour later, and say they've added 1GB to my account so I'm uncapped, and they not charging me for it.

Has anyone experienced this before? It's a first for me.

that must be the new 'fix' Shaun Green talked about.

iBurst are hardcapping their customers because it will save them money and they know not all customers are gonna phone and complain like you have.

Congratulations Azgard... you have successfully prevented iBurst from being underhanded and unethical with you.

Hmm, hadn't heard of that. Haven't been looking around here for a while.

I find it strange that HTTP was blocked though, I mean I could connect to DC++ and download just fine.. I don't mind having that blocked when I'm capped, but I get angry when my HTTP is blocked. I'll be careful with my bandwidth for the time being.

yeah it has been an interesting development... its been labelled the cap of death on the forums. some people have been saying that they are fine when capped while others are experiencing what you experienced where HTTP just dies.

I think in all fairness to iBurst, they just dont know what the problem is, but then again it has been around for a while now and one would think any company would have resolved it by now.

well atleast they did the honourable thing and gave you 1GB bandwidth... but if i were you i would keep a note of how much iBurst debit from you.

hehe, Azgard, I have had the same issue a few times when I did heavy DL'ing from DC++ the month before. Just to make sure, I would recomend that you ask the person who u speak to, to send thru an email confirming that you will not be charged, and only after you recieve that email, should you accept the free gig. as far as i remember, there have been a few cases where ppl were charged for their "free" gig.

That is called the CAP of DEATH! some how when you reach your cap some users will not be able to access any site except www.iburst.co.za

the only solution the people at WBS has is to offer you a free gig...
very annoying but at least you get an additional gig for free... but what happens after that gig? you tell me

fishfly, thing is, that after you get your free gig, and use it up, all the problems "mysteriously" disappear.

I seem to recollect getting 2 free gigs one month, because the problem recurred, but most of the time it just disappears.

really? thanks for the info mic_y :D

well I never go past 4gig anyway :P

I find that there's absolutely no point in using my home connection to download things ;)
