Weird static noise from my speakers.

Hi I just noticed a strange static noise from my speakers, (sort of low whistle and cracks.) The noise seems to change while moving my mouse, browsing and loading web pages, scrolling up and down web pages and when copying files.

Just want to find out if anyone else has experienced this or knows a solution to stop the noise.

I have heard of this before, I think it is due to electrical interference. Make sure your PC is not to close to any power source, like a TV or big speaker etc.

Try move the pc somewhere else and see if that helps. Otherwise possibly a driver issue but I doubt it.

It could be that since I upgraded to Windows 7 lately and the drivers from the cd never want to install so I'm using the windows generic drivers. Going to get drivers online and see if it helps

Ah ok, could possibly be that then, get the latest drivers.

Installed the latest drivers, still have the same problem.

Could be that the jack or cable itself is faulty.Try using the front panel jack and see if that works fine if thats not the problem then try changing the cable.

Those fools at pc zone dont connect the front panel. The sound seems to come from the the mobo since any activity (mouse movement, copying files etc) effects the noise.

This is caused by a ground loop. Try taking your speakers off the common ground by using two pin plugs for the speakers, preferably connected to another power point. Let us know if that works, there are other solutions for the 'blitter' noise but it gets more complicated.

do you have a asus board with soundmax drivers?

if yes:

go to your volume mixer and select under options to control/set the volume for the recording device then set the recording source to stereo mix

Nope have a Ecs G31T-M board with realtek drivers. Thanx though.

If you have a cable in your line in this can sometimes happen especially if the other device is not on...

yeah that makes sense - it's a ground loop between the pc and the speakers.
I've solved this problem on a few occasions by using 2-pin power cables for all the devices in the signal chain.

Mute the Mic, Line-In and CD volume sliders in your audio mixer.
