Can anyone say if this happens to them as well?

When I have torrents downloading, after a while I can't browse the web anymore. It is like I unplugged my ethernet cable. This only happens when I download torrents. Torrents still download though?

When I reset my router, all is well. Funny thing is that when http doesn't work, the Xbox can still connect to LIVE. Is it because it's p2p as well?

I am currently with Afrihost Uncapped 4meg, but I was with Mweb uncapped 4meg. I switched to Afrihost because of this, but now it happens on Afrihost as well.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Try pause your Torrents and see if the http works then?

Maybe you're being heavily shaped and limited when using torrents, therefore your http is not working.

You probably have an old router that can't handle all the open connections. That's why resetting the router helps.

What Qwikslver said, older routers cannot handle the amount of connections that torrents generally generate. Used to have this same problem a few years back, if I had any torrents running http would grind to a halt even if I limited the torrents to 1KB/s. Killing the connections from the torrents restored http connectivity.

Limit your upload speed and number of upload connections. I set mine to about 1/10th of my max upload speed. Before that I used to have the same problem with being unable to browse.

I had the same thing - when I went the the uTorrent forums (the program I use for downloading) they recommended some "conservative settings" - once those were punched in, it was plain sailing. Can still browse and torrent at the same time. Check for the maximum number of open connections in your downloader - if its (like mine was 280) it will kill the LAN and internet) - try reducing it to 50-80 odd and see if it alleviates the problem.

What they said. DNS is also an issue. Since your router is your primary DNS is most cases, the router starts timing out on DNS requests. When this happens again, try pinging a server via ip and not name.

EDIT: My old router was taken out by lightning, and when I replaced it the problem disappeared.

If the ADSL modem can't handle that much connections, then you can always dial the PPPoE connection from your PC.

Thank all of you.

I have a cheap Pirelli router I bought from G-Connect. When I made the maximum amount of connections less, it worked great. You people are clever.
