Howzit guys
I have the weirdest issue. It's not a trainsmash since I know how to work around it, but figured I might as well ask to see if there is a solution.
A few months back when I upgraded my AMD setup to my current Intel setup, I had an issue installing windows. Back then I didn't have an internal dvd drive (only external) so figured that the problem lay there and the only way I could install windows was:
1) To make an iso file of the windows disc,
2) Extract it to another internal hard drive,
3) Set the drive I extracted the installation files as the boot drive in the bios settings
4) Let windows install from that drive and once windows is installed, change the boot drive to that which windows is now on and format the installation drive.
Now I'm getting an ssd and decided to do a test boot into windows installation (I now have a normal internal dvd writer which is brand new). However, the pc still won't pick up any bootable disc and gives me the "bootmgr missing, please insert bootable media or press ctrl + alt + delete to restart" message.
I've even tried to use the flash drive method and external hard drive with no success. The only way that works is the internal hard drive method .
I did all the steps, changing boot options, tried in IDE and AHCI mode, and nothing works at all. Now I don't mind installing from an internal hard drive, but what happens when I run out of hard drives to use to do this? I don't wanna have to buy a hard drive specifically for windows installations. Also, I have no idea how I'll be able to use any other bootable stuff that may be required in future for reasons other than windows installations.
Anyone else had this issue? It's so annoying
