Welch plugs

I had a Jag XJ6 once, and I replaced the engine with a newly rebuilt engine. The workshop put the engine in (bitch of a job - 350kg), started it up, and the welch plugs popped out. Turns out the rebuilder had used metric size plugs instead of imperial, and there was a 0.3mm difference. The workshop had to replace all 12 with the engine in.

Or take the engine out again. Ja, the signs of a moron of a mechanic with zero understanding of his trade.

Thanks, the Welch plug are not rusted as the car is on the correct premix of antifreeze, they are leaking somehow which leads me to believe that whatever sealant used there was not right.

Which stop leak? That goo you throw into the coolant?

Liqui Molly always works

It was a bitch of a job getting it in, so it was easier getting the plugs replaced with engine in. Most had space, except for two under the alternator. The engine did run beautifully after that, till I wrote the car off.

Thank you for the valuable info, wow! Its giving me an idea as to what could be wrong with my car.

My Ford Focus 1.6 2004 model got water in the spark plug housing, the engine warning light came on 2 wks ago, ask around about what the cause could be and how serious it was..i was told to change spark plugs, which i attempt yesterday and i was told that my whole egine needs to be taken out because i the head gasket needs to be taken to a engineer. The spark plugs are immersed in water but theres no oil mix, the car is misfiring and there is a rough idling , i dont smell any other substances such antifreeze or coolant or oil..its water in the spark plug housings..how bad could the damage be..is it perhaps water jets that needs replacing..my wiper bottle takes quite a lot of water to fill every week even if i dont use it to clean my windows.

The mechanic changed the oil filter, oil, he didn't change the spark plugs because of the water in the wells, he said if he takes it out that the water and oil will mix.

Why didn't he make a plan to get the water out? Are you still driving around with water in there?

Yes, he said that i can still drive it for a month or so, im from Randfontein working in Carletonville..he also said that he blew the water out with a compressor but it filled up quickly.

Are you sure this guy is being honest with you? Is he the same guy who told you that the head needs to come off? How do you blow the water out of there with a compressor? The water needs to be sucked out because there is nowhere to blow it to.

If it fills up so quickly then how are you going to drive a month between Randfontein and Carletonville? I would hate to see you stuck on the side of the road, it's a serious problem that needs to be attended to not postponed to the end of the month while you busy driving the car, you are going to be left with more damage if you don't sort it out soon.

At least inspect the extent of the problem yourself and make sure that the leak is manageable, if it isn't you need to park the car and make other arrangements for your traveling.

He said that he blew it out..i wish that i could just drive it once Carletonville to a reputable garage that will assist me same way as they did with my cambelt..it was a efficient stress free experience

The Champ, thank you i really appreciate your response and advice..i will not drive the car untill its fixed..

I finally had to get my hands dirty as the leak was getting progressively worse. As you can see, no corrosion as the car has always been filled with an antifreeze mixture. The only reason I can think of is that the was some expansion somewhere.
The clean one is the one that's leaking.

Here's the bugger. I gave me a slight challenge trying to wiggle it out after I successfully manage to twist it on its side, thankfully there is some obstruction in the hole and it cannot fall in.

New one fitted, I could not get the Indian head and was recommended some Locktite that's is also a sealant, good luck to me if I ever need to get it out.
