Was downloading an 111meg file last night. 3/4 way through it pushed me over my 3gig cap. Up until then the d/l average on this file was 35-40K. As I went over my cap, my speed shot up to 127K for the duration of that d/l. The next file, from the same site, came down at 8-10K. So I thought that the throttling software must be working now. I paused that d/l & went to bed. This morning & resumed it, and guess what, it's downloading at full speed again, but I'm over my cap. I don't know if I should be happy or nervous now...

edit: well it seems, for some reason, that the fast speed this morning was just on that one file. Everything seems throttled again.

Perhaps that file was cached on their system...?

that was my thought, but stranger things have happened this morning...

they do have cache servers but the cache server wouldn't override the throttle, anything you get, cached or not should fly to you at 8KB/s when you're capped

So when is this capping software going to work properly, i wonder?

You realize that, according to iBurst, you should phone helpdesk now and complain about the "too high" speeds. Else they might disconnect you...

In fact, you should probably fax them.

Dear iBurst,

I must demand that you immediately start throttling my connection. These high speeds scare me and I am afraid I do not have the self control to throttle myself. Besides... self throttling is considered a sin in many religions.

So please drop my speeds to the 8KB that I should be getting. There are starving babies offline in Africa and I don't want to be the one that is stealing their connections.

If these high speeds persist I am afraid I will be forced to download a lot of porn to try and cap myself further.

Hoping to see slow speeds soon,
XXXX

I was thinking the exact same thing last night ... I got a burst up to about 1.7mbit/s at some stage, so am I now supposed to phone them (I am not capped), and ask them to please drop me to 1mbit/s, fearing disconnection?

This is rediculous!

Well, would someone phone them and post their reaction?

I will not phone. The software that manages throttling obviously broke yesterday. Last night I did 3GB downloads finished. If they cannot manage 4000 users correctly, then there's NO FUTURE for them hitting their target of 25000 users by the end of this year.

I continue to maximise my line with heavy downloads and if they don't like that they can come to my house and unplug my network cable. See how far they get trying though..........

Email Sassan an mp3 of "Oops I did it again" by Britney Spears and tell him you're sorry.

codemasterhti, they dont NEED to come to your house, they'll flip a switch and suspend your account, then you're unable to download, easy as that.

if they need to visit everyone they're disconnecting, I would like to see them try get past my two dogs and ill tempered cat with a frikking laser beam attached to his head...

I doubt that she would be interested - It’s only 64k and….You have to hold back or they’ll CUT IT OFF! Nhaaaaaaa!

Disclaimer: I do not condone coveting another man’s wife :D
