Western cape holiday suggestions please

As the title says, please suggest WC holiday suggestions. Plan to stay about 8-10 days early december.

Especially something 6 year old can also enjoy. We were thinking of spending at least 3 days in CT as he would like to play on beaches, cable car and probably world of birds. Then, lighthouses at cape agulhas & cape point. Wife & I have been to CT 2-3 times so we know lay of the land in CT but haven't explored other parts of WC much except occasional visit to george/knysna/hermanus etc.

Suggessions received so far.

CPT - bugsworld , plenty of free parks, clay cafe, beaches - strand
Plett, oudtshoorn, caves, monkey sanctuary, birds of eden
whiskeycreek
Mossel Bay and Hartenbos.

Spier wine farm, out Stellenbosch
Aquila Game Reserve
suggestion to skip knysna, to visit Plett or wilderness instead

If you want something like beaches and world of birds, why not try Plett? Close enough to surrounds like Oudtshoorn and the caves etc There's also a nice monkey sanctuary right next to the bird sanctuary (largest one in the Southern hemisphere)

Thanks, yeah.. we were thinking of having a 3-day base in knysna and visit monkeyland again and probably visit tsitsikama park as well. You mean Congo caves - I forgot about that. Also, I swear I don't recall bird sanctuary next to it but it was while ago and I forget at times.
 
I think 3 days in CT, 4 days in Knysna and then a day or two in CT before heading back home sounds like a good idea so far.

I would skip Knysna honestly. There aren't many very nice beaches. Rather go for Plett or wilderness

bugsworld is a must

there are lots of kids play parks around CPT

there is also clay cafe which is nice

free parks like sea point and green point is awesome

then theres the beach as well...go to strand as the water is flat most of the times and kid can play there

Thanks, it looks like it is better to spend 7-8 days in CT and surrounds within 100kms. We could do garden route areas later on. We have done different types of trips earlier (3 day CT, 2 day knysna and 2 day PE in one go) but that gets hectic and logistics is difficult to manage.

+1 on the bird sanctuary it's hardly believable. When you approach it you can see the structure reaching above the treeline. It's incredible. Such a massive free-flight aviary. Been twice. Both times a parrot decided to land on my shoulder and give us a personal tour.

The kids will love it.

You talking about that Butterfly World out at Klapmuts?

We take the kids there occasionally. Lovely to see all those butterflies fluttering about. They almost blot out your vision lol. Reptiles and meerkats and such running about too. Spiders and scorpions with touch and feel shows for the kiddos if they're brave enough! (mine never are) :ROFL:

Thanks, will take a look. Pretty sure been to Mossel bay 10+ years ago or at least passed the signs on our drive to somewhere but don't recall anything. Definitely not been to Hartenbos.

Butterfly World is gone, hasn't been butterfly world for about 3 years now I think
Not sure if true but I believe all the butterflies were imported and covid stopped it

Still a cute place with exotic little critters, but no more butterflies

100% Sure fully booked BUT..... check it out. You can sit on your porch and watch the kiddy play in the pools.

Very sad to hear. The butterflies were so incredible.
