Western Digital 3TB hard drives

So here's the question... If one has to keep so many backups, is it safer to get 3 x 1TB HDD's in RAID or one 3TB HDD? Will it make a difference?

Currently I'm looking at getting a WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA6G 64mb cache drive. Is this advisable compared to Seagate alternatives?

Only necessary to keep 1 drive as backup imo, and 3 x 1TB's will be loads cheaper than 1 single 3TB. Im going WD on my next storage drive, lost too many Seagate's this year :S

I'm going to be doing 6 HDDs in my new rig. 2 x WD 1TB SATA6 drives and 4 x Seagate 1TB SATA3 drives, the Seagates in RAID so I have nice backup and safety of data and the WD ones for my O/S and everything else I need.
