I'm looking to get a desktop drive for additional storage but I'd like to run apps and games off it too.

WD vs. Seagate?

This is what I had in mind - WD4004FZWX

WD 4.0TB
3.5" 7200RPM 256MB HDD - Black

Any complaints or things I should consider?

Thanks

WD is good. Should really look at a SSD for OS and apps and use the HDD for staorage.

Unfortunately some of us only have HDD money... though those also don't have WD black money.

Thanks. Yeah, SSD will come later. Will put OS and apps on that but for now I need space more than speed and from what I've seen the large capacity SSDs are crazy expensive.

The bigger the drive the more the heads are likely to fail, also more platters the more force it would take to spin them causing wear.

If you don't need more than 2 TB for now, consider the Seagate FireCuda SSHD (it has an 8GB MLC SSD cache - good enough for faster booting of Windows and accelerating your most frequently used apps / games). There used to be a 4 TB model available, but doesn't look like it is sold anymore.
