Wharfedale WH-HDD160 HDMI

Hey guys,

I got a query for those that have used or had a Wharfedale before. I currently have it but am trying to use my old Samsung speakers on it. In order to do that I had to change the connections to fit in the Wharfedale. After doing all that I got the sound working (yay!) but I noticed that the sound is very soft and on the actual system it is limited to a '20 level' volume (which is way way too low).

Are you supposed to able to use the 'recorder' as a standalone amplifier or are you supposed to use an external amplifier (pre-amp?) to enjoy full blast sound.

As you can see I am not a pro on this so any help would be appreciated!

You say you had to change the connectors on the speakers to get them to fit. Usually speakers just have bare wires which go into the connectors on the back of the amp. I'm guessing you have fitted rca plugs onto the speaker wires and now connected them to the rca outputs. If this is correct, then yes you need to connect it to an amplifier first.

It sounds like this is a hard disc recorder? These units don't really come with built in amplifiers. If it did it would probably come with the speakers as well. So you probably need to get an amplifier to run the speakers off.

And don't worry about the volume level only going up to 20. Those are usually relative values, not absolute. So 20 on one system may be the same as 100 on another.

Correct, thats the assumption I got that I need an amp and work the speakers from there and the HDD Recorder through the amp.

I only realised all this after I changed all the connections (stupid I know )

But thanks for the response, will go out and go buy an amplifier then and all will be well
