What AD Blocker do you use ?

I take it your suggestion is to move away from IE ?

Will there be major changes required by me ?

I have had Firefox downloaded for some time, but have not gotten round to trying it.

Would there be a negative affect for MyADSL if I use an AD Blocker / Firefox ?

If you prefer IE then you can download the Google or Yahoo toolbar which has its own adblocker. In essence, Firefox gives multi tabbed pages within one browser, I have 11 pages open currently, one application. You can also get an add on for IE getfoxie.com

just try an use firefox for a while, u wont regret it. Also try an get the latest version if u've had it dormant for a while...

I'll post some screenshots of how it can block ads..

And no it wont have any negative effects on myadsl, and there are no major changes, firefox can import all of ur bookmars etc from IE...

I find Firefox faster as well!

You can actually set up Firefox to look EXACTLY like IE - even the titlebar. Though you loose the multi-tabbing (which is a lifesaver!) I sometimes browse with around 15 pages open at a time - your taskbar will be completely useless by this stage with IE.

*Some* pages won't render correctly with Firefox, such as www.samsung-mobile.com You can get a plug-in that allows you to right-click a link and open it in IE. Another plug-in even opens an IE window inside Firefox, which works quite well. https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=1419

Sorry if I overwhelm you with all the features. :)

I've taken some screenshots of the news24.co.za website under both firefox and IE. In the IE Screenshot i can count +-9 moving gif / flash adverts, while in firefox, I dont see any, however there is one at the top right of the screen which is an animated gif advertising news24 itsself, which appears in both..

Here are the links to the screenshots, give them some time to load...

Firefox Screenshot of News24.co.za [438kb]

Internet Explorer Shot of News24.co.za [498kb]

Tabbed browsing has to be the greatest invention ever!! Middle(wheel) clicking on links to make them load in a new tab in the background is extreeeeeemly addictive, cuz u can keep reading, and u dont have to alt-tab back into the window u were in, and u can save time by having the page load in the background read for when u need it..

Since nobody has mentioned it...you *do* need to install the Adblock extension for firefox...but it works like a dream. You can specify the ads that you wish to block with wildcards (e.g. if you wanted to block the ads on MyADSL (which I'm sure you wont - and it's a bad example i know), you can set the filter to: http://mybroadband.co.za/phpads/*.* and all ads will be blocked) so after a couple of filter settings, you'll find that ads don't appear on your commonly used sites.

Sorry for not responding ; I went out on a booze cruise. Real usefull stuff will try firefox 2morrow /. well maybe later today

PS. Remember kids, don't post anything when you are drunk ........

one thing you fellas forgot to mention concerning firefox/mozilla is that you can block 3rd party banners too or have them only load once instead of it running in a loop. Just my 2 cents :)

A while ago someone posted a script that could be saved in the firefox directory to block most adds, but I can't find it any where. Any one remember this or have the link?

It worked great on my old drive, but I upgraded and haven't managed it find it since. :(
