Yeah, definitely try to get a Nexus 7 as it got a bit cheaper for black friday in many stores. It's really worth it, mostly because of the native android OS and update support as it's a Google device. Access to Play store is a thing that a tablet must have, yet many of the lesser known brands of tablets have blocked it.
But if your wallet can't afford a 200$ tablet, you have to make a few compromises. I'd recommend that you take a look at some of these cheaper ones http://www.mawista.com/blog/en/top-cheapest-tablets-for-students/ . Mainly build for reading ebooks but they're fine for other stuff too like browsing and media.
So you can find plenty of tablets under 100$ that will fit your needs.
