Hi Everyone :)

I always lurk around on the threads and stuff so hoping you guys can help me out here - I trust everyone's opinions.

Basically, I want an Android tablet.
I'm a lifestyle blogger, Love instagram, love Twitter and love to play Angry Birds :p I also do a lot of writing (though, you can't tell with how shoddy this is typed - haha) and interviews - I'm always online.
I'm also a student so having a tablet will be helpful, right?

I plan on buying this myself but I don't want anything too expensive. Which Android tablets are there available in SA that are good and under R3500? Also, I don't have wi-fi so it will also have to have 3G. Please don't tell me to get the ipad because I honestly think Android is more user-friendly compared to iOS - I have an Android phone too.

My mom is a bit hesitant and thinks having a tablet is a waste of time as I have a desktop pc, laptop AND netbook... but i disagree

Thanks :D

Wait for a Nexus 7 3G , or get a wifi Nexus 7 @3K and use your android phone as a 3g hotspot.

Go for the Nexus 7 or the Nexus 10 which will be around the same price as the 16GB iPad when it arrives.Or wait for iPad Mini shoud be around R3500-R4500 or get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7inch

You can't get an iPad under r3500 in any case. Make a plan for data (e.g. tethering) and get Nexus 7 is my view. I've never used a better Android device.

He says he's a blogger so he'd want to type on I would guess a real keyboard.
The Nexus 7 is too small for this and OTG support is spotty.

The Nexus 10 will be the right size for keyboard and mouse work(word processing) and has full OTG support.
He can make a plan with 3G tethering.

Either get the new Nexus 7 that has 3G,
or save a bit more and get the Asus Transformer TF300 (Esquire has it for R5000)

Perhaps sell the netbook, which you probably won't use once you have a tablet.
I would even sell the laptop and get the keyboard dock for the Transformer

Ha ha, why do you all think I'm a guy? I'm a girl - just had to point that out before I replied. ha ha and I'm 19 years old - none of my friends can help me with this info.

Well, I don't mind typing on a small-ish screen - I mean, I have a small sized Samsung galaxy phone anyway so I'm used to getting used to screen sizes.

Well, it seems like everyone thinks a Nexus 7 is a good option - I did too until I found out that it does not have 3G. But I can use my android phone as a hotspot? I better find out how because it may just be an option.

I've heard about Esquire and I'll try zones.co.za - these places are safe to buy from, right?

Yup, might choose to sell my Netbook - it's a Dell one, pretty much brand new, too.

Thank you all so much for the help :)

Get a Nexus 7, if you have an android phone, you can set it up to automatically tether to the phone by bluetooth when you are outside of wifi, and drop the tethering when you are in wifi range.

Its probably better to have 3G build into your tablet if you blog a lot. Perhaps wait for the Nexus 7 3G to come to SA.

The 16GB wifi only version is currently available in SA at around R3000, but if you wait a bit you should be able to get a 32GB version (announced recently) at roughly the same price as the current 16GB.

You cant test the hotspot feature of your phone so long with your notebook. Perhaps try this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fongal.quickteth&hl=en
(this is simply a shortcut to the setting that should be already on the phone)
Make sure that data/internet is enabled on your phone when activating portable hotspot.

Why use Bluetooth tethering instead of wifi tethering?

If you don't mind importing and can wait a month, get yourself the Ainol Novo 7 Flame. I ordered one and it is fantastic. Great screen. Quite fast. Specs are very good for the price. I have 3G and Wifi. And I paid about R1500 (that includes the fees I paid when it came into SA - customs). I haven't regretted it for a moment.

Nexus 7.
Either wait for the 3G model to come out or wait for the price to drop on the 16GB Wifi

Sounds interesting. Where did you buy yours?
