What beats Imaginet's deal?

Imaginet are running a package:
384k line, 1gb international and a Billion Wireless router at R295 per month on a 12 month contract. No installation costs for self install (it seems).

This looks like a really good deal. Add an Openweb 30gb local account for R130, and the total costs you R425. Is there anything better out there?

Buy the router yourself. If you can't afford to buy a router straight-up then perhaps you should stay away from computers. Why anyone would voluntarily lock themselves into a 12 month contract is beyond me.

Have a look at WebAfrica's DSL Complete. Last time I checked, they charged R199 for 384Kbs + 1Gb. I know they have any option to take a router with it as well, just not sure the costs.

lol, are you aware how stupid that comment makes you sound? The router is offered on contract over 12 months, interest free. It's also cheaper than some of the stores I've checked, and the one that is cheaper doesn't have stock.

Affordability has absolutely no weight on whether or not you should 'stay away' from computers. Shame :)

Cybersmarts lowest offering has 384kb/s line, 1GB cap & Free Router for R169 per month with a once off R275 setup fee. Service is on a month-to-month basis so no contracts. www.cybersmart.co.za

So over a 12 month period you will save R1237 including the once off setup fee. Even if you used their 3GB cap you would still come out R157 ahead.

I'll tell you what's stupid...locking yourself into a 12 month contract because you're too cheap to buy a router up front.

I've seen "affordability" used all to often by greedy sales-people to lock friends and family who are technically ignorant into 12 and 24 month contracts for services that they have been hopelessly missold.

Going the contract route to finance a piece of computer equipment has got to be one of the biggest cons out there at the moment!
 
You can get a basic router for R300.

You're going to be paying them R295/month and Cybersmart offers you the same package with the R275 setup, at only R169. You can buy a new router every 3 months with that!

Contracts are bad, especially if you don't get anything for signing them.
 
+1 on not going for a contract with any broadband related service. Maybe if its a 3G Wireless Card and bundle but fixed line.. definitely not.
 
@ Ponder, thanks that's the kind of response I was looking for, not the narrow minded 'all contracts are bad' from 'deweyzeph'. So I suppose Dewey doesn't have DSTV, or a TV licence, or any magazine subscriptions. Wake up, why anyone would pass up an interest free contract beats me; you have more cash in your pocket on a monthly basis. I suppose the lower income family buying a computer over 36 months at GAME with a massive interest rate; so that their kids can improve their education is also a mistake? Not everything is black and white.

I've actually gone with Telkom (can't beat the free local) and found a router from my local Computer Mania. R300 for a router just isn't going to cut it, I need a wireless with a few extra ports. So R800 ought to do it.

Thanks for the response guys, I've gone Telkom do2, and Opwenweb local 30gb. I can't do Cybersmart because they limit you to one user per account, and I've used WebAfrica in the past, didn't like their service, always been happy with Telscum.

Actually DSTV is available on a month-to-month basis and a tv licence is not a contract for anything, it's a tax.

I can give you many reasons for passing up an interest-free contract, not least of which is the fact that you are tied into a service that you cannot get out of for the length of your contract period. Not exactly a wise move in an industry that changes constantly with new services and prices coming out on a regular basis.
