Hi

Every now and then my internet cuts out. And not because of line sync lost, but something else.

Below is pictures of my modem:

Try call 10210, and ask them to do a "port reset"

tell them you are syncing but not authenticating.

Good Luck!

Well I'm on the internet now. When the internet goes off, its usually off for 5-10 mins. I had Telkom change my port in the exchange. Moving me to a new card, but still the internet disconnects.

I have tried Dlink modem and also a Huawei modem. Problem still persist. It is as of my connection from the exchange to the Telkom network disconnect. Because the internet goes off and when I login to the modem, it still says i'm connected. Only after about 1-3 mins, the modem then shows that the internet is off

This is usually the root cause of food disappearing from your fridge, internet cutting out, data getting lost, braai choppie going missing and your GF leaving without reason.

:p

But yeah, ask for a port reset.

If that doesn't help, then you probably got a bad piece of copper somewhere.

Mine also disconnects sometimes. I was told my line has high attenuation, so that might be your problem. Only way to fix that is by getting a technician in, though they don't always know what that is either >_> (Had one come to my house, said he fixed it, ask Mweb what the problem was and they still tell me there is high attenuation)

I think I can't remember the amount of times I have had a port reset. The port resets does not work. I had 3 Telkom techs here, and I watch what they do on my computer when they test the line. And the line always and I really do mean always test clear. No defect on the line. Plus it's not a old line at all.

Telkom even gave me one of their account to test, and with that account the internet also disconnected.

Ask Telkom to drop your line sync to 1Mbs and see if it's stable for a while.

Your modem connected to a "lightning" protector?

If so, connect your modem directly to the line, that is - bypass the lightning protector ...

Might just sort your issue ...

Nope, no lightning protector. George doesn't really get what the GP's call Lightning :D

My line attenuation is excellent. I'm about 700 meters away from the exchange. Check the picture I posted: Line Stats.

Adsl line stats are not the problem

I think it is due to all the work on the network at the moment.
My line was solid up until maybe a week ago when it randomly started to disconnect.

Maybe PM TelkomZA, he seems to know what he's doing, think of TelkomZA as one of those guys on 10210 just faster, better and smarter.
I have PM TelkomZA before, and Charl got a technician to change me over to a new set of cards. Which help, but not really any wow/massive different. The internet still disconnects

I don't think that may be my problem. As I have been getting the disconnects for more that a year. And nobody knows what the problem is.

I have replaced my modem, land line cables and filters. But what Telkom doesn't get is that the neighbor over the road has exactly the same problem. And then my internet disconnects, his internet also disconnects.

And by thus it makes me believe that their is something wrong from the exchange side.

Try upgrading your modems firmware; restoring it's settings to factory defaults and reconfiguring it accordingly. Are you able to test either of these modems at a friend, or family members place (with a working internet connection)?

I have all new filters. They are going there job. Because if I call out or the phone rings. The internet stays on

Try just the modem plugged in - no phones, filters, alarm system or anything else. It may also be worth testing the modem at multiple phone sockets while you're at it.
