I am coming to you, begging for advice.
I have lost all hope of ever getting my ADSL line fixed.
My ADSL was perfect for about 5 years and then, after a big storm, my line started flapping.
I logged a call with Telkom on the 16th of May 2013, after which a technician came out on the 19th of May and said that they need to replace "the card" on the exchange, as my port is faulty.
I then left them and thought : "Just maybe they will fix it without me bugging them the whole time?"
After 5 months, I started calling again and was really nice to them, but still nothing happened.
Now I have hit 8 months and my line is completely down.

I have tried the "nice" approach, but they tell me it's an area fault, which has two problems related to that "excuse" :

1. Have they had an area fault for 8 months?
2. I have 3 friends that live in the same complex and one living right next door, of which all their lines are perfect.

I just don't know anymore.
I have logged 2 complaints on hellopeter, they reply with a pasted response and still nothing happens.
I have been paying my Telkom account throughout the 8 months and I don't even know if I can get my money back.
In a last desperate attempt at getting something done, I called MWEB and asked them to take over my line, but they can't do that, until Telkom closes any open calls on my line, which they refuse to do, as it's an "area fault".

Can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction?

I installed a new line... the money more than covers the stress, high blood pressure, and aggravation of dealing with the brain donor technicians employed by Telkom. Oh and if you have a registered business, put the new line in the name of such, they treat business customers very differently from residential ones.

@S8AN, we had a similar problem a while ago, the storm took out the "filter" - i think its called that? small white box that your ADSL line and Tel line connects to. just check those first.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I am going to buy a new filter and test that. I was also thinking of putting my line in the name of the company I work for, but I will test other options first.
I assume by bypassing the POTS filter and plugging straight into the wall, that would give me an indication if it is the filter, or not?

Pm TelkomZA. He helped me within a day to sort my noisy line out. Tech was there next morning, very knowledgeable chap also.
