What can one do with a 2nd DSTV decoder?

I have a 710i and it has scarts...but beware of the new 933...they dont have any outputs only RCA's - Video Out and Stereo Audio...

no tuner so u can tune into vcr or old type tv...so just becareful...

Ja, watch out. Sometimes you see ads for DSTV for something like R600. I would guess that is the stripped down version of the decoder. It sucks specially if you want to split the output to the bedroom tv's using rf instead of av. Then you need to buy a modulator to add onto the decoder.

I don't know what I've got, but my decoder has 2 scart outputs and 2 AV outputs, and I'm using all of them. One to the AV receiver, 2 to each of my 2 vcr's (yes, I gotta switch to DVD RAM!!) and one to the bedroom.

I've heard rumours years ago already that Multichoice is planning Dolby Digital broadcasts? Anyone know anything about this? I'd be delighted cause the compression currently is sometimes quite obvious if you are listening in stereo/Dolby Surround.

Doubt they'll do Dolby Digital ....

As you say, there is already too much compression. There's no way they could squeeze another 3 channels down! Besides, I *think* the UK and USA don't even get those broadcast often - and it only appears on the odd occasional movie.

My next to purchases will be a DVD Recorder and a 16:9 TV set (waaay in future!). 80% of the rentals from the store I go to, are in widescreen ... and it appears TINY on my TV set *grrrrr*

I noticed this week the pics on certain dstv channels seem a bit "pixelated"...I think maybe its because of all their compression...maube if the remove a few supersports and the junk they show then we can get better quality scenes that we pay through our a$$es! Overseas their Digital broadcasts r 720x320 resolution but here they are 320x240...

we need HDTV...

Have you noticed you send an SMS for R5.00 to play their casino games ... ? And that's for a DAY PASS?

give it to me, i wanna see if i can hack out the sim card section and replace it with my dummy sim card umulator!

I'm thinking of a home theatre projector rather than a bigger tv. Any home theatre buffs around?

Cash Converters told me they don't even accept that model ... how embarressing is it to be turned away by them because your goods are no good?

Well I will buy it from you for an R&D project I have in mind. How much you want for it?

I personally don't like projectors - their quality sucks compared to a CRT or plasma. Just incase you guys don't know, Multichoice released a new decoder in early June that has a digital SPDIF out, therefore supports Dolby Digital in the future. There are rumours flying around that MC will be starting broadcasting in DD where applicable and widescreen during 2007 sometime. But these are only rumours.

Also, plasmas are getting cheaper too, which leaves that option open for my next TV.

I have argued with people about this before . The dual LNB is actually worthless unless you watch really weird channels like CCTV as in China tv etc. All the decent channels are on the one "stream" in any cse. So the only limitation is that both TV's need to watch the same "stream". If you would like to watch on the other "stream" while someone watches the other TV and stream then you need the dual LNB. I am looking for the correct terminology on the NET and will repost once I have it.

The links you're looking for are probably these your streams are called bouquets, and yes, all the normal stuff is on 1 bouquet. Actually had a link to these bouquets a while back, but they went awol

<edited> sorry, see you found 'em :o

I think you are referring to the polarisation. It is either vertical or horizontal. Most channels are on vertical, only the special ones are on horizontal.

I got a dual LNB and it was a couple of hundred more than the single one. Not worth it I think, unless the 2nd decoder is installed in the opposite direction from the 1st one. The dual LNB will save you on long cable routing as the 2nd decoder won't get its feed from the 1st decoder but the LNB.

EDIT: Didn't see the link, thanx BillyBob!

I think they released a decoder with SPDIF long before June! If I remember, the Dual View was the 1st decoder with this connecter. Thing is, if those rumours are true and DD begins in 2007, it's so far in future that there'll be new technology and decoders available.

That said, I'd like the connection to take straight to the amp for a more direct connection.

What to do with it?

Return to WBS and tell them it is version 0.1 UTD...maybe they will give you a refund in the confusion ? :D

@Dolby, I think you can take it to Multichoice and swop it out for a new decoder. Took a friends old decoder (not sure of the make but it was old) to the mulltichoice office in Umhlanga and they swopped it out for a brand spanking new one. I assume it is because the old ones cant handle all the new functions.

Can't hurt to try.

Cheerz
Voodoo

5.1 sound

Wonder when that will be available.
Will be nice to record it straight to DVD.

Afaik, very few DVD Recorders have a digital INPUT to record this. In fact, I think I may only have heard of one that can do this! It'll be downmixed anyway.
